This dram’s got a real lighter touch, but it’s still proper powerful. The nose hits you first with big mineral lemons and this bright citrus kick – like biting into a lemon soaked in sunshine. There’s something more floral here too, almost like straw and beach sand mixed together, but in a good way. On the palate, it’s purer, less tarry than you’d expect, with a chalky dryness that reminds me of a plaster wall. The smoke’s more subtle, weaving through beeswax and a hint of that leather shop in Turkey – not overwhelming, just enough to keep things interesting. It’s got this medicinal, lemony zing that makes me think of aspirin tablets in water with lemon juice and a splash of honey. A bit blade-y, but not massive, and the finish lingers long with salted porridge and oysters clinging to the back of your throat. Weirdly, it’s got a feeling of garage tools and embrocations, but in a clean, polished way. The citrus is perfect, sharp and sweet, and it’s got a cleaner, less ‘dirty’ edge than some others. Honestly, it’s simply extremely good – refreshing and layered without trying too hard.
