Springbank Distillery, founded in 1828 in Campbeltown, Scotland, stands as one of Scotland's oldest and most revered independent whisky producers. As one of only three remaining distilleries in Campbeltown—the once-prolific "Whisky Capital of the World"—Springbank is unique in performing every step of production on-site: traditional floor malting, distillation, maturation, and bottling. The distillery remains family-owned by the Mitchell family, operating continuously except for brief periods during the 1970s-80s. Springbank produces three distinct malt styles: the namesake Springbank (lightly peated, 2.5 times distilled), Longrow (heavily peated, double distilled), and Hazelburn (unpeated, triple distilled). Known for its artisanal approach, direct-fired stills, and exceptional quality, Springbank has achieved cult status among whisky connoisseurs worldwide, with limited releases commanding significant attention and premium prices.

Just poured a dram and instantly felt like I was taking a lazy ramble along the shoreline, sea salt on the breeze and a hint of golden syrup dripping from a nearby stall. The first sip hits with black pepper and cloves, then opens up into Myriad red and dark fruits, black cherries and a whisper of mint jelly. There’s a deep, earthy strong tea vibe, almost like simmering espresso mixed with walnut extracts and a touch of soy sauce – weirdly comforting. A background of herbal bitters and mulling spices keeps it interesting, while a faint whiff of ancient leather and darkest shoe polish lingers at the back. It’s the kind of dram you could get lost in for hours, feeling both more waxy and thick, like super dark chocolate meets preserved fruits glazed in honey. Honestly, it’s a proper embarrassment of exotic spices, yet somehow balanced – definitely more fruity than I expected. 🥃

It’s one of those drams that hits you like a rich, smoky handshake first – earthier than I’d expect, with a nose that’s just endless. There’s this bewilderingly complex layering of old pinot noir, myraid red and dark fruits, and yeah, the fruit market seems to have exploded in there. Maraschino cherries and wild strawberries mingle with walnut wines and a hint of strawberry wine, but then it veers into something more waxy, almost like precious hardwood resins or ancient leather. On the palate, it’s thick and sootier, like black coffee blended with herbal toothpaste and a dash of soy sauce. The mulling spices and cloves kick in, alongside black pepper-spiced biltong and a touch of molten salted liquorice. Graphite oil and walnut extracts linger, but then there’s this unexpected flash of mint jelly and eucalyptus extract that keeps you guessing. It’s totally astonishing, honestly – like walking through a spice rack after a lazy ramble along the shoreline, with sea salt and dried lavender clinging to the air. The finish? Earthier still, with a whisper of blueberries and a hint of that sooty peat. Just, more… everything. You could get lost in that nose for hours. 🥃

First sip hits like molten salted liquorice wrapped in waxed canvas, 🥃 then it’s like someone’s spilled an apothecary’s dream—dried lavender tangled with graphite oil and the ghost of a leather armchair. There’s this weirdly luxurious kick, like sipping an expensive Manhattan cocktail by a bonfire, smoke clinging to black cherries and blueberries. It’s weirdly fruity but not sweet, more earthy—like digging into a compost heap after a thunderstorm, with hints of simmering espresso and old pinot noir. The spice rack exploded in here, star anise and black pepper wrestling with something wild, almost gamey, like venison jerky soaked in herbal bitters. And that finish? Lingering wax and the faintest whisper of tea tree oil, like a spa day for your soul. Totally astonishing, honestly. Just… more.

Blimey, this dram’s got me hooked 🍀. It starts with this proper earthy punch, like strong tea brewed by the shoreline, salty and a bit wild. Then the fruits kick in – black cherries, wild strawberries, even a hint of strawberry wine – all jammy and lush. But it’s not all sweetness; there’s this molasses-thick dark chocolate and the sharp tang of dark shoe polish lingering beneath. I can’t help but think of wandering through a fruit market at dawn, the air thick with spices and herbal bitters. There’s cloves and black pepper dancing about, like a biltong snack left to sit beside molasses and soy sauce. It’s peatier than expected, with a touch of mint jelly and eucalyptus oil that’s oddly refreshing. The finish? Proper bonkers. Ancient leather, preserved fruits glazed in honey, and a whisper of black truffle oil. I’m lost in this glass forever – it’s a maze of sweet, salty, and spice. Totally astonishing, like a kitchen shelf full of my grandfather’s old liquorice and spice racks. 🥃

Wow, that dram last night was something else! First off, super dark chocolate and a whole bunch of dark fruits – black cherries, blueberries, even hints of strawberry wine. Totally astonishing how it unfolded. Then this wave of spices hit, like an embarrassment of exotic spices: black pepper, dried lavender, cloves, all nestled between the spice racks. The earthy side came through strong – earthy strong tea, with whispers of tea tree oil and eucalyptus extract, almost medicinal. Peatier and sootier than I expected, reminding me of graphite oil and the darkest shoe polish. But then it softened into something sweeter: molten salted liquorice, mint jelly, preserved fruits glazed in honey. The finish was like a lazy ramble along the shoreline, with black coffee and walnut extracts lingering. More spicy and more fruity as it went on, with that ancient, oily depth. 👍
