honestly this one’s such a vibe 🥃 pale amber in the glass first, smells like roasted mixed nuts straight off with a hit of marmite, a whiff of animal furs and a twist of aged orange peels. sip it and you get that pretty earthy, Springbank style herbal / medical profile first – think herbal cough mix mixed with a bit of cough medicines and bandages and wormwood bitter, but in a good way? then the robust, earthier aspects kick in: coal dust, wood embers, flints, even a hit of natural tar and chilli oil warmth. there’s treacle and sherry sweetness under it all, even a hint of aged pinot noir fruitiness, plus miso umami, salted liquorice, rye bread crust, smoked paprika, dark ales maltiness and even a weird little BBQ sauce and game meats nod? it’s right on the cusp of being a little too weird or grubby but it’s so charismatic you don’t even care, proper mid era profile vibe too. way better/more interesting examples than most of the generic stuff you pick up off the shelf these days, honestly. even gets that dry roast peanuts and fennel seed little finish with a gun metal mineral zing at the end 🤤
