Opening the bottle, there's this lovely wisp of peat smoke drifting out, mixed with something almost like green tea and chamomile. First sip, it's got that real Islay character - tar extract and petrol notes, but underneath there's these gentle flavours of lemon peel and fresh grapefruit that balance it all out. The texture is wonderful, almost greasy and mouth-coating oiliness that just coats your tongue. As it opens up in the glass, it becomes softer but at the same time far thicker in texture. You get more soft tarry and hessian notes, hints of dried seaweed and frothy kelp. There's something medicinal about it too - like vapour rubs and various soft medicines, maybe a touch of iodine. The finish is long, thickly oily with smoked paprika and sandalwood lingering. There's this lovely note of fresh linens and smoked cooking oils that comes through. Honestly these bottles are still a tad underrated given how much pleasure and joy they bring. Perfect for a winter evening, especially during the Islay festival season! 🥃
