honestly wasn’t expecting this one at all 😯 super discreet Caol Ila vibe, not that heavy peaty punch I usually go for, which is such a nice twist. Nose first hits with white wine, fresh rosemary, sourdough, that touch of soot like the air of an old forge, plus vineyard peach and that unexpected jasmine tea note. On the palate it’s got that nearly effervescent profile? Wild for a malt, right? Ginger kick, sea salt, liquorice, hints of melon, even a tiny whisper of cinchona, and that weird greases note that’s oddly charming, plus that faint motor oil edge that feels so properly traditional, not some fancy gimmick. The long finish has floral notes lingering, even a crisp Schweppes-like zing that sounds odd but works very nicely 😂 Whole thing’s got that gentleman in tweed energy, unusual character but beautiful and delicious, gives a fairly different perspective on this style of dram. Improbable mix of ex-Longrow-ex-bourbon and ex-cognac cask influences but it just clik 🥂 Most surprising CI I’ve had in ages, honestly.

Blimey, this whisky's got some proper coastal vibes 🌊! I'm getting a right salty taste, like a walk along the beach on a chilly morning. There's a bit of an ashy mineral thing going on, like licking a chalky beach pebble 🌴. And then there's the bacon crisps, which is a bit weird, but I kinda like it 🍖. It's all a bit austere, but in a good way, like a no-nonsense mate who always tells it straight 🤝. Adding water simplifies it a bit, but I'm still getting those lovely aromatic coastal qualities 🌊. It's like a warm hug on a cold day, dependable and all that 🤗. Not too complex, but sometimes that's just what you want, innit? 🍺

Had a dram that smelled like an old forge after rain, with a whiff of motor oil and a pinch of sea salt. There were hints of melon and ginger, a touch of jasmine tea and lavender, plus a discreet Caol Ila note that wasn’t overpowering. Took a sip and immediately got this pale straw dram with a bit dry, citrous rind tang upfront. The nose is all coal tar soap and chalky beach pebble, proper sootier and ashy mineral notes, but the palate’s got more of a bacon crisp vibe mixed with cider apple sweetness. There’s a nice easy balance, though it’s tad simple – a bit austere, like salty seawater and hay. Water opens it up, makes it a little simpler than the nose, but still irrefutably dependable. Reminds me of salted porridge with a bandage-like hint of TCP, oddly comforting. The muted peat smoke is there, more muted than expected, and it’s got that softer side of Caol Ila feel – not too in-your-face. Maybe a touch smoky wort lingering. Not rocket science, but solid.

Reminds me of a gentleman's study, all tweed and sophistication. There's a whiff of sea salt and a long finish, like a walk along the coast on a crisp day. Not what I'd call typical, but it works very nicely, like a good white wine on a summer's evening. Got a bit of an unusual character, but I suppose that's what makes it beautiful and delicious, like a vineyard peach 🍑. The liquorice and rosemary notes linger, leaving a pleasant aftertaste. Quite improbable, but it's a cracking dram, if I do say so myself! 🥃
