Glenfiddich Distillery Expansion & Portfolio Brief William Grant & Sons has historically executed strategic distillery expansions according to plan, including the Girvan grain whisky distillery in the 1960s and the subsequent Ailsa Bay distillery. The Glenfiddich distillery expansion project, however, has adopted a more measured approach. Approved in December 2015, the expansion was initially slated for completion by late 2018. This timeline was subsequently revised to mid-2019, with current estimates suggesting operational readiness by mid-2020. Despite these delays, William Grant & Sons maintains robust performance, with Glenfiddich, The Balvenie, and Hendrick's Gin collectively generating £1.304 billion in revenue. As the world's best-selling single malt Scotch whisky brand (168 million bottles sold in 2018), Glenfiddich's expansion necessitates meticulous quality preservation, fully justifying the extended timeline. Current Production Infrastructure: • 10 stainless steel full-lauter mash tuns • 32 Douglas fir washbacks with fermentation cycles of 68-72 hours • Two still houses comprising 11 wash stills and 20 spirit stills • Direct gas firing utilized in Still House No. 2 • 2018 production metrics: 68 mashes weekly, yielding 13.65 million liters of new make spirit Expansion Plans: Construction is underway for a new mash house and still house. Anticipated additions include: • 1 additional mash tun • 16 washbacks • 5 wash stills • 10 spirit stills Post-expansion annual capacity is projected to reach approximately 20 million liters. Product Portfolio: Core Range: 12, 15, 18, 21, Excellence 26, 30, and 40-year-old expressions Regional Exclusives: Rich Oak 14 Year Old (Canada only), Port Cask 14 Year Old (US & Canada) 2019 Innovation: 23 Year Old Grand Cru (cognac cask finish) Limited Editions & Special Releases: • The Original, Ultimate 38 Year Old, and 50 Year Old • Experimental Series: IPA Experiment, Project XX, Winter Storm 21 Year Old (2018), Fire & Cane (rum cask finish) • Glenfiddich Gallery: Bespoke bottlings curated by Master Blender Brian Kinsman (established 2014) • Travel Retail Exclusives: Solera series (Select Cask, Reserve Cask, Vintage Cask, Finest Solera), Rare Oak 25 Year Old • 2019 Releases: Distillery Edition 15 Year Old, Rare Collection Cask No. 20050 • Taiwan Market (August 2019): Black Queen and Ice Breaker (finished in Taiwanese red wine casks)

Mate, cracked this open last night and honestly? Loved the nose straight away 🥃 First you get bright blood oranges, then fresh geranium stem and violety notes, next the full sherry Port Mourant depth rolls in, all warm and rich with Guyana rum and cognac-adjacent vibes. Thing is, the palate is simply flawed mind — you get this massive very soapy barrage outta nowhere, plus cologne and olive oil tang, even heavy liquorice and pitch sticking around. The good bits are there too: Demerara sugar, sugar cane sweetness, crunchy walnuts, red mahogany warmth, pink grapefruits zing right at the end, super long finish that just keeps going. It’s proper full whisky but that soapy bit is a bit of a weird turn off, still fun to sip though tbh

This dram hits you first with a proper soapy barrage, proper clean and almost a bit too much, but then the Demerara sugar comes through sweet and heavy, like molasses and licorice lozenges. There's a hint of pink grapefruit and blood orange zest cutting through, bright and sharp, which lifts the whole thing. Underneath, it's all rum and cognac vibes, rich and woody, with a touch of pitch and full sherry adding depth. The finish is long and warming, leaves you thinking of walnut shells and red mahogany furniture. Proper unusual, but in a way that keeps you coming back for another sip 🥃

Had a dram last night. Loved the nose – immediately hit by this wave of rich sherry sweetness, almost like cologne mixed with something floral, geranium stems maybe? Got a real cognac vibe from it too, with some Demerara sugar. Palate was interesting, a bit complex. Started with that whisky warmth, then some pine wood and a violety, old feeling. A long finish rolled in, bringing to mind Guyana and heavy rum notes. Gotta say, there was a very soapy, almost soapy barrage quality there that was... divisive, but underneath that, blood oranges and olive oil peeked through. Huge Port Mourant character, with a touch of pitch and walnuts. The pink grapefruits appeared with time in the glass. Left a lovely impression of red mahogany colour and taste in my mind. 🥃

Pours a lovely red mahogany colour, very inviting 🥃 First thing I get is this rich rum note, almost like fresh sugar cane with a bit of that Guyana character. Then comes this burst of pink grapefruits and blood oranges - quite zesty and fruity. There's something floral going on too, like geranium stems, which is a bit unusual but I quite like it. Walnuts come through as well, giving it a nice nutty depth underneath all that full sherry sweetness. The finish is proper long, just lingers and lingers 👌 Really enjoyable stuff, reminds me of sitting somewhere warm on a lazy afternoon.

Just had a dram that really made me think. The nose was quite interesting, a mix of something like violets and blood oranges, with a strong sense of old, polished wood. 🍊 Took a sip and, crikey, the palate was a wave of rich, almost syrupy Demerara sugar and a very distinct, heavy note that I can only describe as "soapy." It was a bit confronting, honestly. There was also a bit of olive oil slickness and some dark walnut bitterness underneath. The finish was long, lingering with that soapy note and a hint of something resinous, like pine wood. An unusual, full-bodied drop that’s certainly not boring.
