Just poured a dram that’s pale gold with a hint of cane syrup and a touch of orange liqueur. It’s got that old grain feel, almost earthy, with a wee bit of ginger and a tiny bit of tar on the finish. The nose is increasingly dry, soft rum notes drifting in, and there’s a lovely structure for a grain – really intriguing, like a malt but with its own character. Thanks to the Cubans, the Cuban rum cask gives it that sweet, sugar cane juice edge. Medium length, good proportion of malted barley, and a very, very slight benzine note that’s oddly comforting. Who knows, but its fifty years suit it perfectly 🥃

Right, had a go at this old grain. Pale gold in the glass. Nose is interesting... you get that slight petroly touch, almost earthy. Then more on orange liqueur, with a few spruce hints floating about. It gets increasingly dry, intriguing. The palate brings soft rum notes, a real Cuban rum cask finish. There's a hint of cane syrup and that fir bud liqueur again. Detect a tiny bit of tar, and what's that... caraway? Maybe a bit of ginger. The sugar cane juice sweetness is there, balanced by a generally dry profile. For a 50-year-old grain, its fifty years suit it perfectly. The structure is lovely, really solid. Finishes medium length. You can tell the good proportion of malted barley is doing its work. Thanks to the Cubans for that rum cask magic! 👍 Well, that was a proper dram. Who knows what else is in there... Too late, we did! 😉

There’s a soft rum warmth underneath, thanks to that Cuban finish, but it’s not overpowering. The palate’s got a lovely grain structure, clean and crisp, though I swear there’s a tiny petroly kick hiding in there. Sugar cane juice and a hint of ginger dance about, while the old grain character lingers like a shadow. Caraway and fir bud liqueur make it feel intriguingly herbal, almost like a spiced cake. Fifty years in the cask? Too right—it’s aged to perfection, but who’s counting? Just a glass that keeps you guessing, really.

Well, tried this dram recently. Pale gold in the glass – looks inviting. First sip: a very, very slight benzine note, so subtle it's intriguing. Then soft rum notes come through, definitely from that Cuban rum cask finishing. It's like a true uebergrain, closest to a malt but with a slight petroly touch. Goodness, reminds me of an Apérol Spritz but whisky-style, with more on orange liqueur and a hint of fir bud liqueur. Generally dry, though, with sugar cane juice sweetness lurking. Rutabaga? Maybe a earthy note in there. Overall, a well-crafted sip. 😊

Lovely warm dram 🥃 Bit of citrus and orchard fruit up front, then vanilla, oak and a wee touch of spice. Feels cosy, gently sweet, with a soft smoky bit hanging about at the end. Nice for a quiet evening.
