In 2017, Chivas Brothers made a strategic entry into the single malt category with official bottlings from three of its key component distilleries: Glenburgie, Miltonduff, and Glenlossie. This marked a pivotal moment for the Scotch whisky giant, bringing its previously 'hidden' distilleries into the spotlight as standalone single malt brands. While Chivas Regal ranks as the world's second-largest Scotch whisky blend, its component distilleries had remained largely behind the curtain—until now. This stands in contrast to Diageo's approach with Johnnie Walker, where flagship distilleries like Cardhu, Clynelish, and Cragganmore have marketed their own single malts for decades. The release from these three Chivas distilleries represents both a response to growing consumer demand for transparency and a strategic positioning in an increasingly competitive single malt market. Each distillery brings a distinct profile to the Chivas blends: Miltonduff provides the warm, muscular foundation; Glenburgie contributes a fruity, soulful character; and Glenlossie delivers precision and consistency through expert cask management. Glenlossie Distillery, located in Speyside, operates with a 12.2-ton stainless steel full lauter mash tun, six Oregon pine washbacks, and three spirit stills. The facility runs 18 mashes per week with an annual production capacity of 4 million liters of pure alcohol. While much of the process is automated, the distillery maintains traditional production methods to train new generations of whisky makers. Historically, Glenlossie's output has been the backbone of major blends including Buchanan's Black & White, Teacher's, and Chivas Regal itself. The 2017 release of Glenlossie 15 Year Old Single Malt marked the distillery's debut in Chivas Brothers' single malt portfolio, complemented by the distillery-exclusive 10 and 12 Year Old expressions available through the Distillery Reserve Collection at visitor centers.

Right then, just had a wee dram and honestly, it’s like liquid sunshine. First thing I get is this lovely nougat sweetness, almost like a honey glaze over ripe vineyard peaches. But then—boom!—it flips straight to citrus. Not just any citrus, mind you. It’s practically pure mandarin juice, like peeling a fresh one on a sunny afternoon. There’s a touch of that Corsican mandarin liqueur in there too, that candied fruit vibe. Stunning really, how clear it is. Smitten, I am. It’s got this pleasant change from sweet to tangy, long on the finish, a dash of honey lingering. Reminds me of a cassata ice cream somehow. Pure bonkers how much the mandarin reigns supreme here. 🍊

Gave this one a proper nosing and wow, there's a lot going on. First thing I get is this lovely bergamot note, almost like sniffing a good Earl Grey. Then underneath there's something waxy, almost face cream-ish? Strange combo but it works really well. The palate's sweet and juicy upfront, reminded me of that muesli full of dried fruits my gran used to make. There's a slightly sappy quality too, with a hint of tree bark that adds some proper depth. Pretty complex stuff for a modern Speyside honestly. Then things get more interesting - picked up some crushed parsley and juniper, almost herbal. The waxy notes come through stronger now, making it feel richer and fuller on the tongue. Not too heavy though, medium bodied I'd say. Finish has this lovely white pepper kick and a whisper of mint tea. The wood influence is clearer here, giving it structure without being overwhelming. It's got this charismatic side that keeps you coming back for another sip. Compared to some Speysides I've tried, this one's more direct in its delivery - no hiding behind anything. The sweeter notes are right there in front, but there's enough complexity underneath to keep things interesting. Really enjoyed this one 🥃

Oh wow, this one’s proper bonkers. First sip and it’s just… honey everywhere, like proper runny wildflower honey, but then there’s this creamy nougat thing right behind it, really smooth. Then it gets all fruity, like a touch of that vineyard peach you get in a fancy cocktail, mixed with something creamy. Reminds me of a slice of cassata ice cream cake, weirdly enough. The finish is long and keeps changing. Suddenly I’m thinking of a really good fruity beer, then a dash more honey comes through, and right at the end, it’s like an IPA with tons of mandarin hops, or a sip of that Corsican mandarin liqueur. Mental. 🍯🍊

First sip hits me with a wave of citrus, like a freshly peeled mandarin 🍊. Then comes this lovely sweetness – not sugary, more like candied fruits and a touch of vineyard peach. There's a smooth dash of honey that ties it all together. It reminds me of a fruity beer, maybe like an IPA with a heavily mandarin-forward hop. The mandarin really reigns supreme here. It’s fresh, pleasant, and feels like a nice change of pace. Not outrageously complex, just very enjoyable. I’m quite smitten with it. The finish has this light, clean quality, almost like the scent of straw. A very pleasant drink indeed. 😊
