In 2017, Chivas Brothers made a strategic entry into the single malt category with official bottlings from three of its key component distilleries: Glenburgie, Miltonduff, and Glenlossie. This marked a pivotal moment for the Scotch whisky giant, bringing its previously 'hidden' distilleries into the spotlight as standalone single malt brands. While Chivas Regal ranks as the world's second-largest Scotch whisky blend, its component distilleries had remained largely behind the curtain—until now. This stands in contrast to Diageo's approach with Johnnie Walker, where flagship distilleries like Cardhu, Clynelish, and Cragganmore have marketed their own single malts for decades. The release from these three Chivas distilleries represents both a response to growing consumer demand for transparency and a strategic positioning in an increasingly competitive single malt market. Each distillery brings a distinct profile to the Chivas blends: Miltonduff provides the warm, muscular foundation; Glenburgie contributes a fruity, soulful character; and Glenlossie delivers precision and consistency through expert cask management. Glenlossie Distillery, located in Speyside, operates with a 12.2-ton stainless steel full lauter mash tun, six Oregon pine washbacks, and three spirit stills. The facility runs 18 mashes per week with an annual production capacity of 4 million liters of pure alcohol. While much of the process is automated, the distillery maintains traditional production methods to train new generations of whisky makers. Historically, Glenlossie's output has been the backbone of major blends including Buchanan's Black & White, Teacher's, and Chivas Regal itself. The 2017 release of Glenlossie 15 Year Old Single Malt marked the distillery's debut in Chivas Brothers' single malt portfolio, complemented by the distillery-exclusive 10 and 12 Year Old expressions available through the Distillery Reserve Collection at visitor centers.

Had a dram last night and it was a bit of a rollercoaster, really. Loads of green melons and greengages at first, then it got almost like a creamy compote with a touch of sweeter cider – proper fruity, almost gummi bear sort of vibe 👍 There was this metallic thing lingering, like tin boxes and copper kettles, mixed with chalkier and grassier notes. Felt a touch of cut cactus and fresh concrete somehow, plus even a whiff of hessian drifting about. Good blast of limoncello and oranges as it opened up, and I swear there was green tea and even ginger tonic hidden in there somewhere. Quite superb actually, felt like the level was high and the finish was rather long. Not your usual apple and malt, definitely fruitier and full of surprises.

🥃 Just had a dram that reminded me of green apples and greengage jam, with a hint of aspirin‑like sharpness and a chalky edge. There’s a burst of tangerine and orange zest, plus a whisper of fresh rhubarb and raw cider, all wrapped in a creamy fruitiness. A touch of medicinal side and a grassy note linger, like walking through a hessian‑lined orchard after rain.

Took a sip and immediately hit with this pale gold colour, quite superb actually. First thing that comes to mind is copper kettles and tin boxes – like something straight out of a small batch distillery. The nose has a proper mix of fresh concrete and green wood, which sounds odd but works. On the tongue, it's rather more fruits than I expected, think greengage jam and overripe apples, maybe even a hint of Calvados. There's a medicinal side too, almost like licking an aspirin, but then you get this ginger tonic and citrus-flavoured gummi bears thing happening. The creami fruitiness builds, with sweet cider and tangerines dancing about, while the cinchona adds a bitter edge. Finish is rather long, warming with menthol and a touch of hessian – weirdly enough, it reminds me of sipping limoncello by a campfire. Proper unique, that one. 🥃

Alright, let’s crack this small batch open 🥃 First the nose is all creamy fruitiness – greengage jam, overripe apples, green melons, even that tangerine zest you get off orange peel. Take a sip and it’s got that metallic little kick first, then more citrusy notes of green apples, fresh rhubarb, even that zing of cut cactus y’know? There’s a sweeter cider edge, plus that citrus-flavoured gummi bear sweetness I used to love as a kid. The minerality’s pretty chalkier, almost like fresh concrete but in a good way? Back end has that faint medicinal side, like aspirin and cinchona, plus hints of ginger tonic and green tea. It’s got that greengage jam fruitiness but also dry notes of hessian, tin boxes, even a whiff of green wood and copper kettles, and the level is high but so rather more fruits forward it’s just bloody drinkable, quite superb honestly. Oh and there’s that weird but nice plaster aftertaste too, almost like Calvados came round for a pup 👌

Took a sip and immediately hit with this bright, pale gold dram that’s proper green up front – think green apples and greengages dancing with a hefty dose of citrus, like someone’s squeezed a load of tangerines and limoncello into the mix. There’s a medicinal kick too, almost like cinchona or aspirin, but it’s balanced by a raw cider tang and a weirdly refreshing hint of cut cactus. The nose has this herbal, hessian-like earthiness, and a touch of menthol that makes me think of green tea or those citrus gummi bears my nephew loves. Mid-palate gets fruitier – more like overripe melons and a splash of Calvados – but the finish snaps back to something sharper, like fresh concrete or a slice of rhubarb. Oddly moreish, though, especially for a small batch. Reminds me of fermenting fruit in copper kettles, if that makes sense. Rather more fruits than I expected, but in a good way.
