In 2017, Chivas Brothers made a strategic entry into the single malt category with official bottlings from three of its key component distilleries: Glenburgie, Miltonduff, and Glenlossie. This marked a pivotal moment for the Scotch whisky giant, bringing its previously 'hidden' distilleries into the spotlight as standalone single malt brands. While Chivas Regal ranks as the world's second-largest Scotch whisky blend, its component distilleries had remained largely behind the curtain—until now. This stands in contrast to Diageo's approach with Johnnie Walker, where flagship distilleries like Cardhu, Clynelish, and Cragganmore have marketed their own single malts for decades. The release from these three Chivas distilleries represents both a response to growing consumer demand for transparency and a strategic positioning in an increasingly competitive single malt market. Each distillery brings a distinct profile to the Chivas blends: Miltonduff provides the warm, muscular foundation; Glenburgie contributes a fruity, soulful character; and Glenlossie delivers precision and consistency through expert cask management. Glenlossie Distillery, located in Speyside, operates with a 12.2-ton stainless steel full lauter mash tun, six Oregon pine washbacks, and three spirit stills. The facility runs 18 mashes per week with an annual production capacity of 4 million liters of pure alcohol. While much of the process is automated, the distillery maintains traditional production methods to train new generations of whisky makers. Historically, Glenlossie's output has been the backbone of major blends including Buchanan's Black & White, Teacher's, and Chivas Regal itself. The 2017 release of Glenlossie 15 Year Old Single Malt marked the distillery's debut in Chivas Brothers' single malt portfolio, complemented by the distillery-exclusive 10 and 12 Year Old expressions available through the Distillery Reserve Collection at visitor centers.

A proper full gold dram this one, with a firm and tense kick that grabs you right off the bat. Loads of apple compote and cut fresh apples upfront – proper fruity, like biting into a crisp cider apple straight from the tree. There's a whisper of gewurztraminer and rose petals dancing about, maybe even a hint of litchis and gooseberries. The oak's there, not too heavy, more like green oak shavings, and a punchy cinnamon warmth that reminds me of spiced ale. Mid-palate gets interesting – cardamom and muscat grapes tussling with something acetic, like drops of vinegar cutting through the sweetness. Not unpleasant though, very good balance. Long finish, with a chalky dryness hanging around and that typical Speysider character, all natural malt whisky through and through. Sips nicely with a glass of hojicha or hochicha tea if you fancy something different. Very punchy, but in a way that makes you want another sip. Proper dram indeed.

Justpoured a dram, first sniff gives oak and a hint of custard, then a punch of very punchy fruitiness – think muscat grapes, litchis and a touch of plums. There's a tang like drops of vinegar or cider, a little ale note, and a whisper of cardamom and cinnamon. Finish is long, rounder, with a puffed rice crispness and rose petals fading out. 🥃

This dram's got a proper nice balance—right off the nose, it throws me back to apple compote and cut fresh apples, proper fruity and bright. There's a hint of cider in there too, maybe from the all natural malt whisky base, but it's not too sweet. The palate's quite punchy upfront, with plums and a touch of oak, like a good ale but smoother. Interesting how it shifts to something rounder, almost creamy, like custard or popcorn. A few drops of vinegar sneak in late, which might sound odd, but it works with the gewürztraminer and muscat grapes sweetness. The finish lingers long, dry and chalky, with a faint acetic tang that's oddly refreshing. Reminds me of sipping a fine cider on a crisp autumn day, but with more depth. 🍎✨

Just poured a dram that glows full gold, smells like cut fresh apples and gooseberries with a hint of litchi sweetness. The palate is very punchy, perfect fruitiness muscat grapes and a touch of acetic zing, rounded off by green oak and a faint note of hojicha tea. Finish is long, with rose petals and puffed rice lingering like a light ale‑cider blend. All natural malt whisky, pretty nice indeed. 🍂

Full gold colour in the glass – quite lovely. Nose first – loads of fruit. Cut fresh apples and sweet muscat grapes right up front, then these lovely litchis and gooseberries. There’s a hint of something like hojicha tea and a whisper of cardamom. The fruitiness is perfect, really. Tastes rounder than the nose suggests. That apple note turns into cider or maybe a crisp ale, mixed with juicy plums. I get a bit of cinnamon and something creamy, like custard or puffed rice. A tiny drop of vinegar cuts through, which is oddly nice, just keeps it lively. 🍏 The aftertaste is long and a bit firm, leaves you with green oak, a bit of chalk, and that lovely apple compote note hanging on. Honestly, it’s pretty nice. Very punchy and fruity, just a great natural malt whisky feel. 🥃
