Blanton's is the pioneering single barrel bourbon brand that ignited the premium American whiskey renaissance. Launched in 1984 by legendary Master Distiller Emeritus Elmer T. Lee, it honors former distillery president Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who personally selected "honey barrels" for distinguished guests. Each bottle is drawn from an individual aging barrel without blending, making every batch unique. The brand is distinguished by its iconic round bottle, collectible horse and jockey stoppers (featuring 8 different letters that spell "BLANTONS"), and exceptional quality. Produced at the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, Blanton's created the single barrel category and remains the global benchmark for premium bourbon. The whiskey typically features rich notes of caramel, vanilla, honey, and citrus with a smooth, complex finish.

First sip, spicy arrival with ginger and caraway bread. Then it dries, bitter cocoa and sawdust. The oak is really oaky, more oak gets in the way. Lavender and pencil shavings, very dry. Gritty finish, like over-infused tea with a touch of maple syrup. The oak is too much sometimes.

Oh, this one’s got bite—like a proper autumn morning, crisp and sharp, but with this warm hug of vanilla and caramel that just won’t let go. First sip’s all sunshine and citrus, but then—whoa—the tannins kick in like a good old-fashioned cuppa, strong enough to hold its own. Almost tastes like a slice of marmalade left out too long, all sticky and golden, but with this raspberry jam twist that makes you think of Sunday roasts. The oak’s there, but not overpowering—just a whisper, like the scent of an old book. And that cinnamon! Bags of it, like you’ve just walked past a spice market in Istanbul. A bit long on the finish, but in a good way—like a proper chat with a mate that just won’t end. Rye’s got a bit of a gritty edge, like a well-worn leather armchair. All in all, it’s got action—not too sweet, not too harsh, just right. 🍸

This dram’s got a proper punch – that bitter edge hits first, but it’s held in check by bags of caramel and orange zests. Not buying all this oak? Nah, it’s more about the rye spice and citric zing upfront. There’s a clove-y aftertaste lingering, which I quite like, plus a whiff of lavender and violets that feels oddly refreshing. It’s rather long on the finish, with tannicity that’s got some backbone – big enough to stand all this tannicity without turning rough. The vanilla and vanillin notes make it rounder, almost velvety, while the marmalade-y sweetness keeps it lively. A touch of black tea and bitter oranges in there too, like sunshine through a glass of gold. Rather nice, actually – though I’d say a little better if it dialed back the cologne-like sharpness. 🥃✨

Took a sip and it hits you right away with this mad spicy kick – like someone’s shaken a bag of cinnamon and set it on fire with ginger. There’s a sweetness too, coconut cream and maple syrup trying to calm things down, but honestly it’s getting lost in all that oak. Dry as a bone and more oaky than a joinery workshop, with hints of pencil shavings and sawdust clinging to the back of your throat. The finish? Bitter cocoa and over-steeped tea hanging around way too long. Medium body but honestly feels like they left it in the cask too long – typical oak juice, if you ask me. Not unpleasant, but I’d rather have a dram that doesn’t feel like it’s arguing with itself. 🥃

Poured a glass of this, nice gold colour. First sip — quite spicy actually, bit of ginger and cinnamon hitting right away. There's a sort of caraway bread thing going on too, like rye toast with custard maybe? 🤔 Honestly though, the oak is just... everywhere. Pencil shavings, sawdust, that kind of thing. Feels like someone left a teabag in for an hour — proper over-infused. Gets drier and drier the longer you sit with it. There's some maple syrup sweetness trying to poke through, and a hint of lavender which is quite pleasant, but the wood just bulldozes over it all. Bitter cocoa at the finish, and it leaves your mouth feeling quite gritty and parched. Not bad for a one-off dram, but I wouldn't reach for it regularly. Bit too much oak in the driving seat for my liking 🥃
