Tomatin: In 2005, Tomatin decided to forge its own path. At year-end, they distilled a batch of whisky using Optic barley peated to 15ppm and filled them into various cask types. Eight years later, a distinctive Tomatin single malt brand emerged—Cù Bòcan. Over the following six years, the distillery released numerous expressions under this line. Despite its popularity, Tomatin felt it was time for a brand realignment. In summer 2019, three new Cù Bòcan whiskies launched: the core Signature, plus Creation #1 and Creation #2. Creation #1 is finished in a combination of Black Isle Brewery Imperial Stout casks and Bacalhôa Moscatel De Setúbal wine casks, while Creation #2 matures in Japanese shōchū casks and European virgin oak casks. The distillery features a nine-tonne full-lauter stainless steel mash tun, twelve stainless steel fermentation tanks (54-110 hour fermentation), and six stills. Its 2019 production target was 18 million liters, including two weeks dedicated to peated whisky production at 40ppm. The core range includes Legacy, 12, 18, 30, and 36 Year Old, plus Tomatin Cask Strength, Tomatin Port Cask 14 Year Old, and Tomatin First Fill Bourbon Cask UK Exclusive. The 30 Year Old joined in 2018. Limited releases feature the Five Virtues series (Wood, Fire, Earth, Water, Metal), each cask-finished for unique profiles. The Warehouse 6 Collection includes Tomatin 40 Year Old and the recent 1975 Oloroso Cask release. Tomatin 50 Year Old, one of the distillery's most historic releases, debuted in 2018. Travel retail exclusives include 8, 12, 15, and 40 Year Old expressions. The peated portfolio is represented by Cù Bòcan Signature, Cù Bòcan Creation #1, and Cù Bòcan Creation #2.

Blimey, this one's a treat! 🍸 Got a bright, zesty feel to it, like a splash of white wine on a sunny day. Reminds me of those wee young Tomatins, full of life and energy. The flavors are well-balanced, with a nice touch of lemony freshness and a hint of aniseed sweetness. It's not too overpowering, just a well-behaved octave that's easy on the palate. The finish is smooth, with a subtle hint of chalk and concrete that adds depth without being too harsh. Excellent quality, if I do say so myself! 😊 And the best part? It's a wee Sputnik that won't break the bank, excellent value for the price. Cheers to that! 🥳

Right, so this one hits you with that grassier, more austere vibe straight away. Got this chalky sort of texture, then a lovely pastis note creeps in - touches of aniseed, really reminds me of a Scottish mojito somehow 🍃 The sugarcane syrup sweetness comes through beautifully, paired with a nice green tea freshness. Icing sugar on the finish, quite delicate. Wee young ones like this can be properly excellent, honestly. For the price? Outstanding. Not bad for a wee Sputnik of a dram 🥃

Oh, this one’s a proper little gem—straight off the glass, it’s like a wee Scottish mojito but with a twist. That first sip hits you with this bright, grassy profile, almost like you’re munching on fresh-cut grass after rain, but then—bam—there’s this subtle liquorice note, like a tiny aniseed whisper. Not overpowering, just there, blending in nicely. The oak’s done its job quietly—no fuss, just a smooth, well-behaved octave of vanilla and that concrete-y dryness that makes you think of a clean slate. The 60% vol. isn’t showing off, it’s just there, firm but not harsh. That chalky edge? Almost like a white wine finish, but with a wee bit of sugarcane syrup sweetness that lingers—like a dusting of icing sugar on the back of your tongue. And the length! Proper long, like those wee young Tomatins or a Sputnik—you can feel it winding down, but it’s never cloying. The green tea hint? Almost like a faint breeze through a garden, and the peelings? Just a whisper of citrus, like you’ve been peeling a lemon and left a little zest behind. Cheers to that—proper good stuff for the price. 🥃

These wee young Tomatins are a delight to stroll with – bright and lively from the first sip. Got that integrated oak so effortlessly woven in, no obvious wood or sherry pushing forward. It’s more on the grassy side, with hints of sugarcane syrup and white wine vibes coming through. The peelings? Maybe a little citrus zest or something similar, a touch of that raw, concrete-like minerality if you think about it. And the finish just goes on and on, long and satisfying. Really enjoyable for a casual evening dram. 🥃

Quite cosy, this one 🥃 Bit of honey, soft spice, and a gentle oaky warmth. Feels smooth and easy, with a wee fruity note hanging about. Nice slow sipper for a chilled evening.
