Tomatin: In 2005, Tomatin decided to forge its own path. At year-end, they distilled a batch of whisky using Optic barley peated to 15ppm and filled them into various cask types. Eight years later, a distinctive Tomatin single malt brand emerged—Cù Bòcan. Over the following six years, the distillery released numerous expressions under this line. Despite its popularity, Tomatin felt it was time for a brand realignment. In summer 2019, three new Cù Bòcan whiskies launched: the core Signature, plus Creation #1 and Creation #2. Creation #1 is finished in a combination of Black Isle Brewery Imperial Stout casks and Bacalhôa Moscatel De Setúbal wine casks, while Creation #2 matures in Japanese shōchū casks and European virgin oak casks. The distillery features a nine-tonne full-lauter stainless steel mash tun, twelve stainless steel fermentation tanks (54-110 hour fermentation), and six stills. Its 2019 production target was 18 million liters, including two weeks dedicated to peated whisky production at 40ppm. The core range includes Legacy, 12, 18, 30, and 36 Year Old, plus Tomatin Cask Strength, Tomatin Port Cask 14 Year Old, and Tomatin First Fill Bourbon Cask UK Exclusive. The 30 Year Old joined in 2018. Limited releases feature the Five Virtues series (Wood, Fire, Earth, Water, Metal), each cask-finished for unique profiles. The Warehouse 6 Collection includes Tomatin 40 Year Old and the recent 1975 Oloroso Cask release. Tomatin 50 Year Old, one of the distillery's most historic releases, debuted in 2018. Travel retail exclusives include 8, 12, 15, and 40 Year Old expressions. The peated portfolio is represented by Cù Bòcan Signature, Cù Bòcan Creation #1, and Cù Bòcan Creation #2.

Right then, this one's a cracker. Nose is straight lemon liqueur with a hint of fresh leaven – really sharp and yeasty. Taste is übercitric, like crushed limestone diluted in lemon juice with loads of chalk. It's like a Pouilly-Fumé made in Scotland, honestly. Porridge and a dull sweetness underneath, then tropical mango, pineapple, and even a touch of banana liqueur. Menthol and fennel cut through, with greengages adding zing. X-fill casks bring a cereal backbone. It's rather more tropical than I expected but brilliant. Proper long and zesty.

Just had a dram last night and honestly, it's like someone bottled a tropical punch but gave it a proper kick. The mango and touches of pineapple hit you straight away, then this wonderfully zesty lemon that's almost sharp enough to make your mouth water. Not sweet in a boring way either – more like a strong lemon liqueur dancing with greengages and gooseberries. There's something menthol-y in there too, maybe from the fennel and dill, but it's balanced by this chalky minerality, like crushed limestone diluted in lemon juice. The finish is long and rather more tropical, with white peaches and guavas lingering. Definitely not mental, just brilliant rocket fuel for a chilly evening. Reminded me of a cereal-based drink my gran used to make, but way more refined. Perfect sauvignony development, I'd say. 🥃

Hada dram that reminded me of a cereal-based drink, with a splash of water opening up bright guava and pineapple notes, a hint of fennel and dill, then a menthol chill like crushed limestone in lemon juice. It’s uebercitric, long and rather more tropical, with touches of gooseberry and a perfect sauvignony development—brilliant, without any dull sweetness. 😊

Had a dram that reminded me of gooseberries and a touch of pineapple, with a hint of menthol and a chalky edge – felt fresh leaven, not mental at all. 😄 It was almost exceptional, loves water, and left a long, rather more tropical finish like white peaches and guavas. No changes needed.

bloody hell, this is proper brilliant 😂 Pour a glass and you’re hit with that strong lemon liqueur and banana liqueur zing first, even a slight nervous sharp kick right off the bat, so wonderfully zesty it almost makes your jaw tingle Got those gooseberries, greengages, white peaches and soft fresh leaven porridge undertones underneath, plus that crushed limestone diluted in lemon juice chalky minerality like a pouilly-fumé made in scotland innit, you can almost taste that light cereal-based drink bready base too Long and rather more tropical finish with just touches of pineapple, no dull sweetness at all The x-fill casks really let the spirit do the talking, it’s almost exceptional, so bright and uebercitric and crisp it’s like brilliant rocket fuel Loves a drop of water, and don’t go expecting passion fruit or mango, tiny hint of menthol to cut through the acid too No changes all the way through, perfect sauvignony development, honestly so good no dull bits at all
