Blimey, this is something else. 🍷 Right off the bat, it’s got this gorgeous, complex waxiness. I mean, it’s proper swollen with wax, you could almost stand a spoon in it. That texture is just stunning—broad, sinewed, with that classic ‘highland’ fatness. The development is where it really gets interesting. Starts off with obvious, easy pleasure—spiced apple and fruit jellies. But then it takes these whackier flights of fancy. Dried figs, apricot, even a bit of natural tar and wood embers. It’s got this sublimely old school aroma, like stepping into a dunnage warehouse, almost incense and sandalwood. There’s a mineral-flecked austerity underneath it all, a slightly drying, hessian note on the finish that keeps it in check. Exotic spiced teas, complex wood spice… it’s technical brilliance, really. Totally stellar whisky, just beautiful. World away from anything else I’ve tried lately.
