Whiskyspace Notes 2135

This one’s got a pale gold glow, almost like sunlight through a glass of mineral water with lemon slices. The nose hits you first — barley water and malty sweetness, but there’s something grassy and green tea-like too, with wee hints of yellow flowers and a chalky edge that makes me think of limestone caves. It’s bready, sourdough-like, but not in a monolithic way — more like layers of crisp cereals and sunflower seeds. On the tongue, it’s sharp and assertive, with white pepper and a sharly peppery kick, but there’s elegance here, a touch more refined than you’d expect. The texture is taut, yeasty, almost like fanning old newspaper pages, and the finish lingers long with wee notes of ink and a mineral oils slickness. No shortage of charisma, though — it’s powerful but well restrained, like a chiselled whisky that’s had attention and patience poured into it. A bit austere, maybe, but the hints of camphor and beeswax keep it from feeling cold. Quite complex, really, and extremely pure — no wonder it’s got that rich, distillate-driven punch.
