Looked at it, nice gold and medium colour. Smelled lavender and sawdust right off, with pencil shavings. Then heaps of cinnamon and ginger. Took a sip, very oaky, honestly over-oaked, like over-infused tea. More and more oak gets in the way, but there's coconut cream and maple syrup. Spicy arrival with caraway bread and bitter cocoa. Typical oak juice feel, drying and very dry. Finishes gritty. Think it'd be better vatted this cask. Spicy bread sprinkled with custard notes too. 😊

Poured a glass and it just looked... golden, like captured sunshine. ☀️ First thing that hit me was a real burst of cinnamon warmth, just bags of it. There's a bit of citric and bitter orange peel sharpness in there, a real zesty and bittersweet edge. I'm getting these lovely notes of raspberry jam, too, which is nice. It's got a strong oak backbone, but honestly, I'm not buying all this oak - feels a bit heavy-handed for me. Underneath, there's something like vanilla and warm caramel, maybe a hint of lavender, which is interesting. The finish is rather long and has a bit of that bitter edge staying on the tongue. There's a real tannicity to it, gripping and dry, but the overall body is round and big enough to stand all that tannicity. Would like to see a bit more action, maybe. 🤔 A solid pour, for sure.

Right then, poured myself a dram of this. Colour’s a nice deep gold. Smells like… well, quite a lot of oak, frankly. Getting some ginger and what I can only describe as over-steeped tea, with a hint of lavender, oddly. 🌿 First sip… crikey, the oak is really coming through. Bags and bags of cinnamon spice hit first, then it gets a bit drying on the tongue. Reminds me of a spicy bread roll with a bit of custard powder sprinkled on? There’s a fleeting sense of coconut cream trying to smooth things over, but the woodiness, maybe a bit like pencil shavings, is very much in charge. It’s… very, very oaky. A proper wood-forward experience. Almost like a maple syrup note is trying to peek out from behind all the tannins. A bit gritty in texture. Definitely a polarising one – could imagine this being better vatted with a gentler cask to balance it out. Not bad, just… blooming heck, that’s a lot of oak! 😅
