Benrinnes Distillery is situated at the foot of Ben Rinnes mountain, a renowned natural landmark in southern Speyside. At its 840-meter summit, visitors can enjoy panoramic views across eight Scottish counties. The distillery takes its name from this mountain and shares its water source—drawn from mountain wells—with four neighboring distilleries: Aberlour, Allt-a-Bhainne, Dailuaine, and Glenfarclas. The first Benrinnes distillery was established in 1826, though no traces remain today; it stood only a few kilometers from the current site. The present distillery was constructed in the 1950s. In autumn 2012, Benrinnes underwent a major modernization, including full automation of the distillation process and construction of a new control room. The facility features an 8.5-ton semi-lauter mash tun, eight Oregon pine washbacks with fermentation times of 65-100 hours, two wash stills, and four spirit stills. From 1966 until recently, Benrinnes practiced partial triple distillation, a process now discontinued in favor of a configuration using one wash still paired with two spirit stills. The distillery employs cast iron worm tub condensers, which impart a subtle sulfurous character to the new make spirit. With wide cut points ranging from 73% to 58% ABV, Benrinnes produces a robust, meaty new make. Production operates on two alternating schedules: a seven-day week yielding 21 mashes, or a five-day week yielding 15 mashes. The majority of Benrinnes' output supplies blended Scotch whiskies including J&B, Johnnie Walker, and Crawford's 3 Star. The sole official bottling is the 15-year-old Flora & Fauna expression. Limited releases include a 1996 vintage from the Manager's Choice series (2010) and a 21-year-old, 57% ABV special release in autumn 2014.

honestly this one’s such a charm innit 😂 pale gold colour, looks so delicate first sip’s got that soft mead hint then all these delicate herbal infusions roll through - chamomile, mint tea, even wild rose? super very light too, almost like floral jellies y’know? but the finish is unnervingly short, feels like an old and lovely painting where colours have faded a little over time there’s even this stale herbal tea note that’s exactly Earl Grey forgotten in the teapot plus faint faded flowers, slightly overripe clementine, weird little Japanese red bean paste twinge? odd but lovely honestly 😌

Took a sip and immediately thought of that Earl Grey I left to sit too long in the pot—floral but with a quiet, faded charm, like old roses in an attic. Pale gold, very light on the tongue, almost delicate. There’s something slightly off, though, a bit unnerving, like the ghost of a clementine that’s seen better days. Sweet and mead-like, but with these floral jelly textures lingering on the back of the throat. Faded flowers, wild rose—reminds me of a painting left in the sun too long, lovely but soft at the edges. Short finish, leaves you wondering if you imagined half of it.

Just had a sip and it's... really quite gentle. Kind of like chamomile tea with a hint of that old-timey mead sweetness? Delicate is the word. The finish is short, just fades away. Tastes a bit like those floral jellies you get, or maybe the memory of Japanese red bean paste. And strangely, it reminds me of an old and lovely painting where the colours have faded a little over time. Charming, but subtle. Like finding a cup of Earl Grey forgotten in the teapot – still fragrant, but muted. There's a touch of slightly overripe clementine in there too, and faded flowers. Makes me think of sitting quietly with a warm cup of mint tea. Very nostalgic, really. 🌿

Had a wee dram of this earlier… very pale gold in the glass, like sunlight that’s been sitting in a dusty window. Nose is delicate, almost shy. Wild rose, a touch of chamomile, and something that takes me straight to those floral jellies my gran used to have – but there’s also this whisper of slightly overripe clementine, the colours have faded a little over time. It’s oddly lovely, like an old and lovely painting hanging in a quiet room. On the palate, it’s very light. Mint tea and a gentle mead sweetness roll into herbal infusions and a soft Japanese red bean paste note… then a wee stale herbal tea note hits, like Earl Grey forgotten in the teapot for too long. A bit unnerving at first, but it somehow works. Faded flowers linger, then it just slips away on a short finish. Weirdly charming. 🍵🌸
