Poured a glass and it hit that deep gold colour straight away — just splendid. You know the smell of old Sauternes? It was right there, mixed with dried apricots and a touch of mint honey. Astounding, really. A bit of dried litchis and figgy notes too, almost like a rum-soaked panettone. The whisky’s got something to say, mind you — there’s this faint, wee soapy side that’s almost unnoticeable, but it rounds everything out somehow. Fabulously complex on the tongue. Gets me thinking of chestnut honey, Virginia tobacco, and salted butter fudge. Not quite a Christmas cake, but heading that way with all the raisins and prunes. And yeah, a hint of Beeswax. Myriads of other dried/honeyed elements swirl in there too. Texture’s a touch rougher than expected, a bit like a cereal bar, but it finishes long. There’s a stout-like warmth that lingers. 😌 Honestly, sit down and prick up your ears with this one — it’s a conversation.
