Longmorn Distillery, nestled in the heart of Speyside near Elgin, has been crafting exceptional single malt Scotch whisky since its founding in 1893 by John Duff. Contrary to its label's dramatic depiction of rugged peaks, the distillery actually resides on the fertile, rolling farmland of the Moray Firth valley, though the surrounding countryside does feature gentle hills. Longmorn is renowned for its robust, full-bodied character with rich notes of honeyed fruit, vanilla, and toasted nuts, derived from its traditional production methods and pure local spring water. While the distillery's core expression is the Longmorn 16 Year Old, the majority of its production has historically been allocated to premium blended Scotch whiskies, most notably Chivas Regal, where it serves as a key component malt. However, whisky enthusiasts celebrate the fact that Longmorn's exceptional spirit also regularly appears in the portfolios of independent bottlers, offering unique cask-strength and single cask expressions that showcase the distillery's complexity. The distinctive label artwork, featuring the distillery amid mountainous terrain, has become an iconic symbol that captures the aspirational spirit of this hidden Speyside gem, despite the geographical artistic license.

Just poured a dram, deep black earth notes hit first, then a rush of prune‑y sherry and more prunes than in armagnac, with touches of pepper and a hint of mentholated freshness. There's a lovely walnut wine vibe, some adorable oranges peeking through, and a hint of leather. The aftertaste is long, never cloying, never stuffy, fully integrated, like a rich fruitcake at Christmas but more chocolate than in chocolate. Feels totally and utterly sherry‑monstrous, carefully paxaretted, genuine sherry cask vibe. 😊

Right, so here’s the thing—this dram’s got that proper Christmas cake richness, but even more so, if you catch my drift. It’s like someone poured sherry all over it and left it to mellow in a cask for ages. You get this earthy, almost peaty depth, but not too heavy, more garden peat than bog. The finish is leggy, with a proper sherry hug that lingers, loads of prunes and that walnut wine vibe. There’s a fresh bite upfront, a touch of pepper to keep you on your toes, and a mentholated edge that’s oddly elegant. It all just clicks together, full integration, like it was meant to be. Proper smooth, no rough edges. All for the better, that’s what I say. A proper dram, that is. 🥃

Oh wow, that's a real sherry bomb. It's like diving straight into a fruitcake that's richer than the one at Christmas, and there's this wonderful walnut wine note running through it all. So complex, but everything just clicks together perfectly – totally classic, ultra-sherried stuff. It's got that old-school quality, but never feels heavy or stuffy. There's a freshness there, and underneath you get this lovely garden earth and dark, dark coffee. And the fruit! More prunes than you'd find in an Armagnac, with adorable oranges popping up too. The aftertaste just goes on and on, with a hint of pepper and leather. Honestly, it never gets cloying. It's monstrous in its sherry character, but in the best way possible. Cheers! 🥃

Had a glass last night, and the aftertaste just sticks around, lovely stuff. 😊 It's got this garden peat freshness, totally classic ultra-sherried – more chocolate than in chocolate, honestly. More fruitcake than at Christmas, I reckon. The walnut wine note brings elegance, never cloying at all. A bit of bacon and earthy black earth, with mahogany/coffee hints. More prunes than in armagnac, which is quite something. Full integration makes it all for the better. Leather and Corinthian raisins peek through, never stuffy. Just feels so fresh, you know? From a genuine sherry cask, for sure. 🥃

Honestly, just poured a dram and it’s like a trip down memory lane. Deep mahogany colour, smells of dark walnut wine and old leather books. On the palate, it’s more chocolate than actual chocolate, rich prune-y sherry but never cloying. There’s a whisper of garden peat and black earth, some pepper spice that lingers. The aftertaste goes on forever, touches of coffee and elegance. It’s just so well-integrated, that classic old-style sherry cask quality, never stuffy. Truly a beauty. 🥃
