Longmorn Distillery, nestled in the heart of Speyside near Elgin, has been crafting exceptional single malt Scotch whisky since its founding in 1893 by John Duff. Contrary to its label's dramatic depiction of rugged peaks, the distillery actually resides on the fertile, rolling farmland of the Moray Firth valley, though the surrounding countryside does feature gentle hills. Longmorn is renowned for its robust, full-bodied character with rich notes of honeyed fruit, vanilla, and toasted nuts, derived from its traditional production methods and pure local spring water. While the distillery's core expression is the Longmorn 16 Year Old, the majority of its production has historically been allocated to premium blended Scotch whiskies, most notably Chivas Regal, where it serves as a key component malt. However, whisky enthusiasts celebrate the fact that Longmorn's exceptional spirit also regularly appears in the portfolios of independent bottlers, offering unique cask-strength and single cask expressions that showcase the distillery's complexity. The distinctive label artwork, featuring the distillery amid mountainous terrain, has become an iconic symbol that captures the aspirational spirit of this hidden Speyside gem, despite the geographical artistic license.

Bloody hell this one‘s a proper splendid dram innit? 🥃 Pours out that deep gold colour first off, looks cracking. Nose is packed with loads of dried figs, plus dried apricots, raisins, sultanas, wee touches of soap that’s almost unnoticeable, not weird at all. There’s that figgy vibe, mint honey, chestnut honey, old Sauternes sweetness peeking through, even a wee beeswax note. Sip’s got salted butter fudge, all those dried/honeyed elements come through proper, wee stout malt notes, even a hint of cereal bars. It’s rounded, a bit rougher than expected but in a nice way? Finish is long, leaves that wee soapy side but it’s lush. Not quite Christmas cake, but bloody complex and proper lovely for a quiet evening.

Right, so this one really did make me sit down and prick up my ears. Poured a lovely deep gold, looked the part straight away. On the nose you get these gorgeous dried figs, sultanas, prunes, loads of ripe figgy fruit that sort of reminds you of a Christmas cake but not quite a Christmas cake if that makes sense. Theres this wonderful old Sauternes thing going on, mingled with chestnut honey and mint honey and beeswax, just layers and layers of dried and honeyed elements. The taste is astounding honestly, Fabulously complex. Youve got panettone, raisins, dried litchis, dried apricots, even a bit of salted butter fudge and cereal bars in there. Rounded but also rougher than expected, theres a wee touches of soap and a wee soapy side to it that shouldnt work but somehow does. Almost unnoticeable peep of Stout lurking underneath loads of dark fruit and Virginia tobacco. The finish is just long and long, with myriads of other dried honeyed things fading off into the evening. Absolutely splendid stuff, proper nightcap whisky. 🥃

Oh this is astounding, honestly. Poured a dram of this deep gold beauty the other night and it's just got something to say, y'know? First thing that hits you is salted butter fudge and dried apricots, dead luxurious. Then it opens up into all these dried fruits, raisins, sultanas, prunes, rich figgy notes... not quite a Christmas cake but there's a wee touch of that panettone vibe about it. Myriads of other dried and honeyed elements swirling around, beeswax, chestnut honey, mint honey, lovely stuff. Fabulously complex, with a rounded, full mouthfeel that reminds me of cereal bars and a decent wee Stout. The finish is long, proper splendid. There's a subtle soapy side to it, almost unnoticeable really. But I'll be honest it's rougher than expected, caught me off guard a tiny bit. Robust in a good way though. Gorgeous bottle of whisky, that.

Right then, had a dram of this one last night and honestly it's got something to say for itself. First thing I got was all these dried fruits - raisins, sultanas, prunes, figs... loads of them. Almost like someone tipped a bag of dried fruit mix into the glass. There's a real figgy sweetness going on, and some dried apricots too. Not quite a Christmas cake but getting there 🎄 Then came this lovely chestnut honey and beeswax thing, mixed with what I can only describe as salted butter fudge. Properly indulgent stuff. Found some panettone notes too, and even a hint of dried litchis which surprised me. A wee bit of mint honey lurking around the edges. It's fabulously complex honestly. Mouthfeel is rounded and splendid, though there's this rougher than expected edge that keeps it interesting - reminds me a bit of a good stout actually. The finish is long with myriads of other dried and honeyed elements. Only gripe? There's this wee soapy side to it, just wee touches of soap that pops up now and then. Not a dealbreaker but it's there. Overall though, astounding whisky. One to sit down and really pay attention to 👌

I poured a dram and it's deep gold in colour. On the nose, I get figs and something like old Sauternes, but not quite a Christmas cake, if you know what I mean. The whisky's got something to say – there's myriads of dried and honeyed elements, like dried litchis, figgy notes, and salted butter fudge. A wee soapy side that's almost unnoticeable, but adds to the complexity. Fabulously complex, with prunes, dried apricots, mint honey, and even hints of stout. It's rougher than expected, but rounded, with a long finish that brings in chestnut honey, cereal bars, and Virginia tobacco. Astounding! You need to sit down and prick up your ears for this one. 😊
