In 2017, Loch Lomond's owner signed a promotion agreement for its products in the expanding Chinese market; in June 2019, Loch Lomond's ties with China deepened further. Exponent Equity, the private equity fund that has been managing Loch Lomond Group (Loch Lomond Distillery's parent company) since 2014, announced it had sold the company to China's Hillhouse Capital for approximately $500 million to $550 million. Loch Lomond Distillery's equipment is extraordinary. When built in 1966, it was installed with a pair of straight neck stills. In 1990, another pair of stills was added. Four years later, a grain distillery was launched. In 1998, a pair of traditional pot stills was installed; in 2007, a single grain Coffey still was added, later supplemented by a third pair of straight neck stills. Now, the distillery boasts 13 stills of four completely different types! Of the 5 million liters of malt whisky produced annually at Loch Lomond Distillery, 3.5 million liters are distilled in Coffey stills for the popular Loch Lomond Single Grain Whisky (actually single malt, but not recognized as such by the SWA because no pot stills are used). Whiskies under the Loch Lomond brand have their spirit distilled in traditional stills and are blended with whisky distilled in straight neck stills before bottling. The Inchmurrin brand whisky comes from straight neck stills. Also from straight neck stills are the heavily peated Inchmoan brand whisky, and other brands not heavily promoted in official packaging (Inchfad, Glen Douglas, Craiglodge, and Croftengea). Other equipment includes a 9.5-ton full lauter mash tun, 10 stainless steel fermentation tanks (fermentation time 92-160 hours) dedicated to malt whisky processing. Additionally, there are 18 pieces of equipment dedicated to grain whisky processing. Regular releases include three brands: Loch Lomond, comprising Classic, Original, 10-year, 12-year, and 18-year expressions; Inchmurrin, with 12-year, 18-year whiskies and a Madeira wine cask finish; and Inchmoan 12-year and 1992 vintage. Duty-free products include Loch Lomond Single Grain, Signature blended Scotch, 12-year single malt, plus Inchmurrin Madeira cask finish, 10-year single cask, and 10-year Inchmoan. Limited editions include Loch Lomond The Open Special Edition (British Open Golf Championship) and a 50-year-old expression.

Blimey, this one’s a proper oddball! Starts all sweet with pears and peaches, like a fruit tart fresh from the bakery. Then bam—salt hits you like a wave, sardines and anchovies popping up out of nowhere. There’s a whisper of smoke, but it’s shy, almost not there. Nougat and milk chocolate sneak in, soft and comforting, but then that brine just won’t quit. Feels like standing in a seaside orchard, if that’s even a thing. Bit bizarre, but in a lovable way. Good fun, this. 🍐🌊

Well, this one’s a proper fruit bomb! 🍑 Pears, apples, and yellow peaches hit you right away—just a whole orchard in the glass. Then it gets a bit… bizarre? There’s a salty, briny note, like sardines or even a hint of pickled anchovy. Oddly, it works! It’s not unpleasant at all, just good fun. Some milk chocolate and nougat sweeten things up later. No peat to speak of, maybe just a little smoke whispering in the background. The finish? Rather long and keeps you thinking. Definitely something a little uncertain about it, but extremely good in a weirdly lovable way. 😊

First sip and oh, this is genuinely good fun! 😄 There's this lovely hit of brine right away – salty, sea-spray kinda thing – and then it just keeps going, even more brine coming through. Feels like standing on a Scottish coast, honestly. But then you get these sweet notes popping up. Yellow peaches, bits of nougat, even something like milk chocolate melting on your tongue. Proper cakes aplenty vibes, like walking past a village bakery on a summer afternoon. The finish is rather long, keeps you thinking. A little smoke lingers, not heavy, just enough to make things interesting. Some straw and maybe a hint of pickled anchovies – bizarre, I know, but trust me it's not unpleasant at all. Actually quite lovable. The BB hoggies character really comes through, that slightly oaky, waxy thing. And yeah, there's that lightly peated quality that rounds everything off nicely. Weird and wonderful in equal measure. Would absolutely pour another glass 🥃

Just had a sip – first thing I get is this briney, salty hit, like sardines by the sea, good fun! It's a lightly peated variant with just a little smoke, not unpleasant at all. The fruits are all over the place: plums, apples, yellow peaches, pears – orchard fruits in abundance. Then there's fresh almonds and milk chocolate, with cakes aplenty. Oh, and a touch of straw. As it sits, even more brine comes through, salty and rich. No peat in a harsh way, though. Makes me think of BB hoggies on a sunny day – extremely good! 😊

Just had a dram, and it's a proper good time, really lovable stuff. First sip brings orchard fruits in abundance – pears, plums, yellow peaches – with a little smoke, but no peat. Then the salty hit: brine, even more brine, bits of pickled anchovies and sardines, which is bizarre but good fun! Sweet notes too, like fresh almonds, nougat, milk chocolate, and cakes aplenty. Something a little uncertain lingers, but the finish is rather long and enjoyable. Might be lightly peated variants adding depth. Honestly, it's not unpleasant, just extremely good fun. 😊 Straw notes peek through here and there, and BB hoggies... not entirely sure, but it works! 🥃
