Tomatin: In 2005, Tomatin decided to forge its own path. At year-end, they distilled a batch of whisky using Optic barley peated to 15ppm and filled them into various cask types. Eight years later, a distinctive Tomatin single malt brand emerged—Cù Bòcan. Over the following six years, the distillery released numerous expressions under this line. Despite its popularity, Tomatin felt it was time for a brand realignment. In summer 2019, three new Cù Bòcan whiskies launched: the core Signature, plus Creation #1 and Creation #2. Creation #1 is finished in a combination of Black Isle Brewery Imperial Stout casks and Bacalhôa Moscatel De Setúbal wine casks, while Creation #2 matures in Japanese shōchū casks and European virgin oak casks. The distillery features a nine-tonne full-lauter stainless steel mash tun, twelve stainless steel fermentation tanks (54-110 hour fermentation), and six stills. Its 2019 production target was 18 million liters, including two weeks dedicated to peated whisky production at 40ppm. The core range includes Legacy, 12, 18, 30, and 36 Year Old, plus Tomatin Cask Strength, Tomatin Port Cask 14 Year Old, and Tomatin First Fill Bourbon Cask UK Exclusive. The 30 Year Old joined in 2018. Limited releases feature the Five Virtues series (Wood, Fire, Earth, Water, Metal), each cask-finished for unique profiles. The Warehouse 6 Collection includes Tomatin 40 Year Old and the recent 1975 Oloroso Cask release. Tomatin 50 Year Old, one of the distillery's most historic releases, debuted in 2018. Travel retail exclusives include 8, 12, 15, and 40 Year Old expressions. The peated portfolio is represented by Cù Bòcan Signature, Cù Bòcan Creation #1, and Cù Bòcan Creation #2.

Blimey, this one’s a real treat – dark gold in the glass, like liquid honey under a sunset. The nose hits you first with this mad mix of bananas, mangos and passion fruits, all mashed up like a tropical fruit salad, but there’s this proper sherry kiss giving it depth. Not too sweet though, more like Demerara sugar and raisins with a twist of orange marmalade. First sip’s dangerously drinkable, I tell ya – smooth but with a tad more complex punch than you’d expect. There’s this mineral thing going on, almost like licking a stone, and a notch more saline that makes it feel alive. The sherry influence keeps everything rounded, but it’s the earthy touches and pollen that sneak up on you – weirdly brilliant. Medium long finish, leaves you chasing that fruit cloud again. What a glory, this. Feels like it could’ve been bottled in 2015 and still shine today. Definitely one for the stars. 🌟

Oh blimey, this one’s proper something else. 🍊🍍 First sip—dangerously drinkable again, like you’re being lured into a pub at 3am by a ghostly bartender. All that fruit salad in there—guavas, passion fruits, bananas—just bursting like a summer picnic in your glass. But it’s not just sweet, oh no, there’s this tad more complex edge, like pollen on a warm day or honey drizzled over toasted bread. Then—ouch—a notch more saline, like a sea breeze after a storm, but in a good way. That mineral kick makes it even closer to something special, almost like it’s whispering secrets. The sherry influence? Just a moderate touch, not overpowering—more like a whisper of Demerara sugar and marmalade, warm and inviting. And the power! More pungent than the last one, more powerful too—like the OB but with a bit more bite, a tad harsher maybe, but in a way that makes it tad more interesting. Dark gold liquid, rich as molasses, with these raisins and oranges everywhere—like someone’s left a whole fruit bowl in your glass. One of those stars of 2015 moments, isn’t it? Proper glory. 🌟 Just wish I’d bottled a few more—this one’s gone too quick.

Right, poured myself a glass of this one the other evening and honestly? What a glory. The colour's this gorgeous dark gold, really draws you in. Nose is immediately oranges — marmalade basically, with passion fruits and guavas tucked in there too. A hint of blond tobacco and something like pollen, slightly pungent which caught me off guard. Taste-wise there's a moderate sherry influence doing its thing. Fruit salad vibes all round, oranges everywhere basically. Can pick up some Demerara sweetness and a touch of mineral. Maybe a tad harsher than I expected, with a notch more saline character. Definitely more powerful than the OB. Finish is medium long, and the whole thing's generally rounder than I'm used to. Fresh and fruity with touches of earth underneath. Honestly extremely good stuff. Stars of 2015 material this. 🥃

Warm and cosy, with a bit of dried fruit, malt and gentle spice. Feels smooth, slightly sweet, then a wee oaky dryness at the end 🥃 Nice for a slow sip on a chilly evening.

Tried this whiskey over the weekend – got a proper smokey kick, like a bonfire in autumn. Tastes fruity too, maybe apples or pears? It's quite smoth going down, with a bit of spice at the end. Really nice, that! 👍😊
