Port Dundas was a historic Scottish grain whisky distillery located in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 1811 on the highest point in the city adjacent to the Forth & Clyde Canal, it merged with the neighboring Cowlairs distillery in 1860, consolidating two Coffey still operations into one of Scotland's largest grain whisky producers. As a founding member of the Distillers Company Limited (DCL) in 1877, Port Dundas played a pivotal role in the evolution of the Scotch whisky industry. The distillery became renowned for its exceptional grain whisky, which formed the backbone of many iconic blended Scotch brands including Johnnie Walker, J&B, and Bell's. Operated by Diageo until its closure in 2010, Port Dundas was one of Scotland's last remaining urban grain distilleries. Though the distillery no longer operates, its remaining stocks of mature grain whisky continue to be highly prized for their smooth, light character with delicate notes of vanilla, toffee, and soft spice, representing a significant piece of Scotland's liquid heritage.

Quite a sweet dram, reminds me of Turkish delight and nougat with a hint of café latte. The finish is medium long, sweet fresh oak and a touch of toasted coconut, like a warm maple syrup drizzle over old grain bread. A bit big on the vanilla, feels simple yet satisfying 😊🥃

Got this dram on a chilly evening, you know? First whiff... wow, almost like cracking open a bag of marshmallows and fresh coconut shavings right next to some new timber. It's very sweet upfront, big time. Reminds me of those Turkish delights dusted with powdered sugar, with a ton of vanilla and a bit of marzipan. Very oak-driven, almost like a bourbon barrel's influence is all over it. It's satisfying, for sure, and has a nice, full mouthfeel. The finish lingers with that maple syrup and café latte kind of vibe. Though I reckon the sweetness gets just a tad cloying by the end. Not quite my usual cup of malt, but decent for a change. 😊

This dram’s proper bold, really oak-forward – like someone’s taken a barrel and shoved it right in your face. There’s a sweet, almost cloying vanilla and caramel thing going on, reminds me of Turkish delights soaked in maple syrup. A bit of that peat smoke creeps in, but it’s still got this bourbon-esque charm, all toasted coconut and café latte notes. The finish is, well, a tad too sweet for my liking, clings to the back of your throat like nougat. Not quite my cup of malt, but it’s got character, innit? 😄

Tried this one the other day. The aroma hits you with sweet fresh oak and coconutty notes, like toasted coconut. It's very sweet, big time, with maple syrup and marshmallows on the tongue, plus hints of Turkish delights and nougat. Very oak-driven, almost bourbon-like, with a café latte finish. The aftertaste is medium long, monolithic in its sweetness. Full and satisfying, though not quite my cup of malt if you prefer something less peated. 🥃

Poured myself a dram last night - honestly, it's got that bourbon feel to it, big time. Loads of vanilla, coconut notes coming through, almost like nougat and Turkish delights in there. Quite peated which gave it some depth, but overall it felt rather simple, almost monolithic in a way. Very close to bourbon actually, if Europe was making bourbon it'd taste like this! 🥃 It's full and satisfying in its own way, very good stuff, though not quite my cup of malt if I'm honest. That coconutty sweetness is pleasant but I usually go for something with a bit more going on. Still, a decent pour for a quiet evening.
