I can’t help but think of agave and a faint peppermint lift, finishing with an extremely long, almost chalky aftertaste that lingers like old bandages. No real changes from sip to sip, just a steady, comforting we can't wait feeling. 🥃

Nose hits you with this waxy, almost kipper-like smokiness upfront – proper coastal vibes, like standing on a windy pier. Then there's this odd mix of lemongrass and green apples that’s a bit cheeky, not sure if they meant to be there. The palate’s all about that thick, oily texture – think more putty than liquid, clinging to the tongue. Salt and clay come through, maybe from a refill American oak cask? Doesn’t change much as it sits, just sits there implacable. Smoke lingers, but there’s a whisper of tequila and agave hiding in the background, which is weirdly nice. Finish is absolutely endless, like ite missa est but then some – left me needing a biscuit and a lie down. Not the most complex, but it’s got that straight-up, no-nonsense character you’d expect from a younger dram that’s been polished out with grain whisky. Reminds me of Old Clynelish, but fatter and waxier. Proper sippin’ whisky for a rainy night. 🥃

Gorgeous dram this one – starts off all pristine distillate, proper clean like a fresh-cut straw. There’s this subtle clay and chalk thing running through it, earthy but not muddy. The refill American oak must’ve done its job quietly, minimal cask influence but you can tell it’s been around a bit, long ageing showing in the depth. A whisper of lemongrass and green apples pops up early, oddly fresh for its age. Then it shifts – wax and oils, maybe a touch of paraffin, but in a way that’s more intriguing than off-putting. That implacable Old Clynelish character comes through, salty-seaweed vibes and whelks-shell minerality. The finish is absurdly long, just clings to the back of your throat. Reminds me of those proper refill casks – casks could easily make it to 50, no question. A little agave sweetness lingers too, oddly enough. Not sure why but it’s there, like a ghost of tequila in the mix. Drank it neat, sat by the window watching the rain. Felt needy after, wanted another sip straight away. Pure Lagavulin spirit underneath it all, but polished out with grain whisky? Maybe. Either way, it’s a class act. Just a shame it’s so implacable – makes you want to savour every drop.

Right then, poured myself a dram and honestly we can't wait to see where this goes. First thing that hits is this massive lemongrass, proper huge, then comes this waxy, oily texture that's just glorious. The oils I believe give it that fatter, waxier feel. There's something almost medicinal there — bandages, a touch of petrol, and don't get me started on the paraffin notes. It's like sniffing an old shed in the best way. The smoke is there but it's not shouting, more like a whisper. Then the lemon comes through, sharp and bright, with a bit of green apple and straw underneath. There's this chalky, clay-like thing happening too, almost like licking a seaside rock. Can't quite put my finger on it but it's got this high-precision mechanism feel to it, really clean and narrow in focus. The aniseed and peppermint appear mid-palate, and I swear there's a ghost of tequila and agave in there somewhere? Maybe the recoopered or STR cask doing its thing. Little simple perhaps, but implacable — it doesn't change much as you go, no real changes from start to finish. Finish is extremely long, almost needy in how it hangs around. Salt, oysters, even some kippers and bamboo shoots if you really dig. Good young ex-virgin cask influence showing. Honestly these casks could easily make it to 50 years and still be singing. The glory of proper refill, this is the way. 🥃

Just poured a dram and the first thing I notice is the oily, almost waxy mouthfeel – feels like a good young ex‑virgin spirit with a huge hit of lemongrass and a hint of aniseed. The smoke is extremely long, almost implacable, and there’s a salty seaweed edge that brings oysters and kippers to mind, with a whisper of chalk, petrol and a touch of paraffin in the background. The finish is narrow, a little simple, ending on peppermint, agave and a faint lemon zest – this is the way, we can’t wait for the next proper refill 😊. Don't get me started on the clay note lingering at the back.
