I poured myself a dram and, crikey, it’s got this lovely gold colour. The nose is like visiting a baker friend early in the morning—so much gingerbread and spicy bread, almost a leaven of fresh breads and pastries. There’s a discreet earthiness underneath, and you get a whiff of violet and lavender ice creams, which is pretty nice. First sip, it’s quite spicy, with rye aplenty and cinnamon. There’s a soft, sweet brioche thing going on, maybe a hint of geranium syrup or orgeat. The oak is very active, but it’s a milder, easier version than some. It’s got that young distillate energy, you know? A very great effort from the craft distiller, though you can feel their dilemma balancing it all. The finish is long, a tad drying, and a bit vermouthy. Left the nightclub and just kept going. For a young baby, it’s very fine—an asset I reckon. 🍞🔥
