Caperdonich Distillery, whose name derives from the Gaelic for 'secret well,' stood on the banks of the River Spey in Rothes, Speyside. Founded in 1897 by James Grant as 'Glen Grant #2,' it operated intermittently before its permanent closure in 2002 and eventual demolition in 2010. This 'lost distillery' remained steadfast in traditional production methods while others expanded, crafting a Speyside single malt characterized by delicate fruity notes, honeyed sweetness, and a distinctive waxy texture. Though the physical structure no longer exists, its legacy endures through rare independent bottlings highly prized by collectors. The remaining stocks, primarily matured in ex-bourbon casks, offer a glimpse into a bygone era of whisky making, with each bottle representing an increasingly scarce piece of Scotch whisky history. The legend of Lord Ross and his daughter's lover adds an air of romantic mystery to this already enigmatic distillery's story.
