Dallas Dhu
Dallas Dhu is the last distillery among the Speyside distilleries associated with the great Victorian entrepreneur Alexander Edward [see Aultmore, Craigellachie, and Benromach], located on his estate. In 1898, he commissioned the legendary distillery architect Charles Doig to build the new distillery, and within a year, it was fully operational. He sold it in its second year to the blending company Wright & Greig, whose brand was Roderick Dhu. It became part of DCL in 1929 via Benmore Distillers. Wright & Greig itself followed shortly after, with its old headquarters in Glasgow becoming the location of DCL's engineering department. Like many distilleries, it remained silent throughout the 1930s—it also caught fire in 1939—and was not put back into use until 1947. It closed in 1983 and was sold to the Scottish History Museum in 1986, which opened it as a distillery museum.
