First sniff hits you with whiffs of peat arising, but then it’s like two whiskies in one – cardamom and ginger dancing around, loads of spices that remind me of soft curry and crystallised oranges. The nose is rather beautiful, quite an achievement, with lychees lingering like we found in other versions, but no sweetness or fruitiness here. On the tongue, it’s hugely concentrated but not thick, more oriental in feel, with a waxy and oily character that coats the mouth. There’s a tad more resinous note, rounder and fruitier palate, but also this vegetal, grassy edge that’s curious. Olive oil and linseed oil add to the texture, and the finish? Long-lasting, with ginger still hanging about and whispers of paraffin. Full gold in colour, compact yet bold – not like your typical old Scotch, this one’s crafted with a twist. Proper lovely dram, really stands out 🥃✨
