Honestly this one’s a proper Marmite pour, no easy dram at all innit? 🤨
Nose first hits you with that huge bag of cut grass, faint soapiness, fresh paint, a tad of Barbour grease, linseed, putty and even a weird whiff of lamp oils. It’s not an easy nose, proper earthy, full of leaves, roots and various herbs, even that rubbed lemon peel zing cutting through.
Take a sip and it’s extreme proper dryness, rather salty at first, even more salt pops up halfway, tastes of turnips, mushrooms, strong green tea, even that faint wax note, little buttery bit hiding at the back. Total opposite of those modern sweet light oak-doped malts everyone’s knocking back lately.
Drop a bit of water in and water sorts this out straight away, makes it much cleaner, even rounder, calms down the tad soapy edge just enough. Pleasantly challenging, not for everyone, but the finish is quite long with that green tea and fern linger. Proper gold colour too, looks deceivingly mellow before you try it 😂
