Longmorn Distillery, nestled in the heart of Speyside near Elgin, has been crafting exceptional single malt Scotch whisky since its founding in 1893 by John Duff. Contrary to its label's dramatic depiction of rugged peaks, the distillery actually resides on the fertile, rolling farmland of the Moray Firth valley, though the surrounding countryside does feature gentle hills. Longmorn is renowned for its robust, full-bodied character with rich notes of honeyed fruit, vanilla, and toasted nuts, derived from its traditional production methods and pure local spring water. While the distillery's core expression is the Longmorn 16 Year Old, the majority of its production has historically been allocated to premium blended Scotch whiskies, most notably Chivas Regal, where it serves as a key component malt. However, whisky enthusiasts celebrate the fact that Longmorn's exceptional spirit also regularly appears in the portfolios of independent bottlers, offering unique cask-strength and single cask expressions that showcase the distillery's complexity. The distinctive label artwork, featuring the distillery amid mountainous terrain, has become an iconic symbol that captures the aspirational spirit of this hidden Speyside gem, despite the geographical artistic license.

Right, so this one's... really something. Colour's this gorgeous dark amber, kinda like old syrup. Nose hits you with a tonne of chocolate. Not milk chocolate, more like dark chocolate liqueur, or those really rich, fudgy brownies someone bakes a bit too long – you get that slight burnt cake edge. Then you get these waves of Christmas gingerbread and black raisins. It's definitely a young, powerful sherry style, massive on that chocolaty profile. Taste-wise, it's a real mouthful. Spicier than I expected, like a mild curry warmth creeping in, but all wrapped up in more chocolate and some coffee notes. There's a savoury, almost meaty depth in there too, maybe from something like marrow, but it's subtle. The finish is long. That dark chocolate just lingers, and right at the very end, you get this really deep, almost umami taste, like the darkest bit of a black turon. It's quite the experience.

Quite a cosy dram 🥃 I get soft honey, a bit of orange peel, light oak and a gentle smoky tingle. Feels warm, mellow, and nicely rounded — the sort I’d sip slow on a chilly evening.

Oh this one’s a bit cheeky! 🥃 First whiff is all marmalade and old books, like... that toasty oak? Taste’s proper wintery—figs, a bit of coal smoke, maybe? Hint of ginger snap. Finishes warmthe and leathery, lingers like a good chat by the fire. Cozy stuff. 🍂

Right then, this one's got a proper rick caramel nose, with buttery notes on the palatte. Hints of oak and a touch of smoke in the finsh. Absolutely smahing! 😋🥃

Right, had a wee dram last night and here's what I'm getting... Nose: Lovely hit of honey 🍯 and vanilla, bit of smoke drifting through. Getting some citrus there too, maybe orange peel? Quite inviting init. Palate: Smooth and buttery on arrival. There's malty sweetness, touch of caramel and toffee. Then comes the spice - bit of cinnamon and ginger creeping in. Some dried fruit notes as well, raisins maybe? Quite complex this one like. Finish: Medium length, getting oak and a hint of leather. Slight saltiness at the end, kinda coastal. Leaves a warm glow 👌 Overall it's a proper solid dram. The smokiness isn't overwhelming, blends nicely with the sweeter bits. Would defo have another glass of this on a cold evening 🥃 Quite moreish tbh. The balance is spot on - not too peaty, not too sweet. Just right for sipping by the fire with a good book or summat.
