Whiskyspace Notes 2085

Nose opens with this lovely fresh and complex thing, proper bright. Got whiffs of orange blossom and lemon marmalade dancing about, really floral but not overpowering. Some herbal whispers in there too, like crushed mint and fennel fronds. The palate’s a different beast entirely – medium to long, with this fantastic North Star of bourbon and sherry vibes. Not even hiding the engine oil richness, though it’s balanced by saline coastal notes and oyster shell minerality. There’s Springbanky fatness here, proper unctuous, but the mashy notes keep it grounded. Got touches of soot and cigarette ashes adding intrigue, while elderberry syrup and liquorice tango on the tongue. The finish? More engine oil meets beach sand and kelp – saline, smoky, with a wee glass of limoncello sweetness clinging on. Tad metallic and tad less complex than it thinks it is, but I’m a fan of this style. Drops mind you, not for the faint-hearted.
