Hazelburn Distillery was established in 1796, originally located on Langrow Avenue. It obtained a new distilling license in 1825. Due to high demand, the distillery relocated to Milknow Road in 1845 and underwent significant expansion, becoming Campbeltown's largest distillery by both area and production volume. In 1920, Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, worked at the distillery for several months, mastering the complete whisky-making process. Unlike most Scottish whisky distilleries, today's Hazelburn employs triple distillation, resulting in a spirit that is notably lighter and more delicate.

Lovely amber dram, quite coastal and briny, with salted lemons, coal smoke and a bit of soot straight away. I get marmalade, toffee, dried figs and roasted raisins, then leather, pipe tobacco, mushrooms and a cheeky drop of Maggi. There’s a wee savoury thing, like game sausages and suet, but it stays cleaner than I expected. Finishes very long, gingery, chalky, a touch oily, with dark chocolate and black nougat hanging about. Proper cosy stuff 🙂

Lovely amber dram, quite a sherry monster really, with PX sweetness, raisins, black nougat and that wonderful marmalade thing going on. Then it turns a bit coastal and grubby in a good way — brine, coal smoke, leather, pipe tobacco, mushrooms, even a tiny eggy note. I’m getting salted lemons, ginger, roasted chestnuts and a splash of Maggi too. Feels sweeter as it sits, with cakes, chocolate and earthy tea hanging about. Finish is very long, sooty, a bit oily, and honestly rather cosy 🥃

Got a slightly funky first sip, tiny eggy bit, then roasted chestnuts, dried figs and cleaner sherry coming through. There’s salted lemon, earthy tea, leather and tobacco, with a wee drop of Maggi and mushrooms in the background. Gets sweeter with toffee, chocolate and roasted black raisins, but still has that sooty, briny edge. Quite cosy, bit grubby, in a good way 🙂

Right, poured a little dram last night. Nose is dead sweet, reminds me of baked apples and toffee. Bit o’ smoke lurking underneath though, keeps it interesting. 😋 Palate’s velvety smooth. Vanilla cream and a bit of cinnamon kick. Not too fiery, just right. Swallows easy enough. Finish leaves a bit of heat, spicy wood aftertaste. Proper comforting sort of whisky. Would buy agian in a heartbeat. Highly recommed if u get chance. Cheers! 🥃💨
