In 2017, Chivas Brothers made a strategic entry into the single malt category with official bottlings from three of its key component distilleries: Glenburgie, Miltonduff, and Glenlossie. This marked a pivotal moment for the Scotch whisky giant, bringing its previously 'hidden' distilleries into the spotlight as standalone single malt brands. While Chivas Regal ranks as the world's second-largest Scotch whisky blend, its component distilleries had remained largely behind the curtain—until now. This stands in contrast to Diageo's approach with Johnnie Walker, where flagship distilleries like Cardhu, Clynelish, and Cragganmore have marketed their own single malts for decades. The release from these three Chivas distilleries represents both a response to growing consumer demand for transparency and a strategic positioning in an increasingly competitive single malt market. Each distillery brings a distinct profile to the Chivas blends: Miltonduff provides the warm, muscular foundation; Glenburgie contributes a fruity, soulful character; and Glenlossie delivers precision and consistency through expert cask management. Glenlossie Distillery, located in Speyside, operates with a 12.2-ton stainless steel full lauter mash tun, six Oregon pine washbacks, and three spirit stills. The facility runs 18 mashes per week with an annual production capacity of 4 million liters of pure alcohol. While much of the process is automated, the distillery maintains traditional production methods to train new generations of whisky makers. Historically, Glenlossie's output has been the backbone of major blends including Buchanan's Black & White, Teacher's, and Chivas Regal itself. The 2017 release of Glenlossie 15 Year Old Single Malt marked the distillery's debut in Chivas Brothers' single malt portfolio, complemented by the distillery-exclusive 10 and 12 Year Old expressions available through the Distillery Reserve Collection at visitor centers.

🥃 Just had a lovely nip of pure malt whisky, proper good clean fun, like a slightly boisterous youngster in a glass, no fuss at all. Colour’s that perfect pale gold first off. Nose hits you with crisp clean linen freshness, bright green grassy notes, a whiff of mint, that funny goat’s cheesy aspect with the ash rind of the cheese peeking through, and a bit of tart gooseberry compote sweetness too. Take a sip and you get creamy sweet barley, soft porridge vibes, then a little fudge kick, followed by that sharp prickly pop of green pepper and pink peppercorns, a zing of lemon rind and that slightly bitter edge that’s not unpleasant at all. There’s cooling wort freshness, dry earthiness, mossy bits, dry grass, hay, straw even, a hit of cooling cucumber, and that chalky mineral tang at the back. You get little hints of sunflower oil, agave nectar, barley sugar, even a faint whiff of soot and fermenting grist, plus that raw wool slightly fuzzy note and a touch of butterscotch right at the end. Finish is good length, leaves a little orange bitters tingle and that dry, fudge-tinged aftertaste. Proper good robust stuff, perfect for a quiet evening. 🥃

Took a sip and immediately got this grassy punch—like walking through a field after a summer rain, all green and fresh. There's a prickle from the peppercorns that wakes up your mouth, and a minty breeze that's not too sharp. The nose has this dry, earthy thing going on, with hints of hay and a bit of soot, like a campfire lingering in the background. On the tongue, it's got a sweet barley kick, almost like barley sugar, but with a 'fistful of porridge' heaviness. The Goat's cheese note is oddly comforting, tangy but not overpowering, and there's a mossy depth that grounds it. The finish is long enough to be satisfying, with a subtle bitter edge and a touch of orange bitters that lingers like a cheeky wink. It’s like a slightly boisterous youngster—bold but not too serious. The cucumber and sunflower oil make it feel crisp, almost like a salad in a glass. Definitely one for when you want something lively but still smooth. Slàinte! 🥃

Got my first sip of this pure malt whisky and it hits me with tart gooseberry compote, then a raw wool earthiness and green grassy notes; the colour is pale gold, mossy, with a hint of butterscotch, a prickle of peppercorns and a splash of cucumber coolness. The finish is long, minty, lemony, like good clean fun on a field of hay 🌾

Sipping this pale‑gold pure malt I’m hit straight away by a dry earthiness that feels like stepping onto dry grass and chalk, a bit like a field of straw under my boots. There’s a warm butterscotch sweetness, fudge‑like, with rolled oats and a fistful of porridge in the background, plus sweet barley and a whisper of sunflower oil. A tiny splash of agave nectar and a tart gooseberry compote give it a lift, while a slight lemon rind bitterness keeps it lively – almost a slightly boisterous youngster. I also pick up a goat’s cheesy aspect, like the ash rind of a cheese, and a mossy, fermented grist note. Not unpleasant at all, just good, robust and clean fun, with a nice length on the finish. 😊

Poured myself a dram of this one tonight. First thing I noticed was the colour - a really pale gold, like straw held up to the light. On the nose there's something quite farmyard-y going on. Think damp hay, a bit of raw wool, maybe some mossy earth after rain. There's also this green grassy thing, like walking past a freshly cut field. Oddly enough I'm getting a whiff of porridge too - rolled oats and barley sugar sweetness. The palate is... honestly, it's a bit of a lively one. Definitely a slightly boisterous youngster 🤪 There's mint, some green pepper that gives it a prickle, and a tart gooseberry compote note that keeps things interesting. I'm picking up butterscotch and a bit of fudge, but then there's this slightly bitter edge - maybe the quinine hint? Like tonic water almost. The orange bitters and lemon rind come through nicely to balance it out. Got this weird chalky, sooty thing in there too. Cooling wort and fermenting wort vibes - very brewery-esque. A touch of goat's cheese funk that's actually not unpleasant at all 😅 Finishes well, good length. The dry earthiness lingers along with some grist and that green pepper note. All in all, it's clean fun for something this young. Not going to blow your mind but perfectly decent for a casual evening pour 👍
