Wow, this one’s got a deep, full gold colour, paler than you’d expect for its age. On the nose, it’s a miracle of old oak transmuted into something else—like beeswax, camphor, and a hint of that pine resin you get from old fir liqueur. There’s this coconut wine sweetness, mixed with just pollen and a reminiscence of many an old Chardonnay, maybe Meursault? So specific. In the mouth, the real war is fought 🤺. It’s still fresh, surprisingly, without any obvious dryness, more like honeydew and that marvellous old cask character. There’s a flicker of cough syrup, then a stunning refill cask note that’s all melted beeswax and a whisper of artichoke. It’s smart, these old casks… best cases indeed. The finish is pretty long, fading like an old British actress taking a slow bow. You just know it was held for decades, best terroirs doing their thing. Hold until their 30th? I get it. 🥃✨
