anCnoc and Balblair are two renowned single malt brands under Inver House Distillers, which launched entirely new series in 2003 and 2007 respectively, featuring new bottle packaging and label designs. anCnoc's sales subsequently increased dramatically, and the brand introduced a peated series. Balblair Distillery has experienced only modest sales growth over the past decade. The company had been promoting this series as vintage-dated rather than age-statement whiskies. This change, however, did not drive sales growth, as consumers are not accustomed to whiskies identified by vintage year. Only Glenrothes Distillery employed a similar strategy, and last year they abandoned vintage-dated sales, reverting to age-statement whiskies. Consequently, in April 2019, Balblair Distillery also launched a completely new series of age-statement expressions. Balblair's whisky style remains unchanged, and the company hopes their new products will be embraced by more consumers. In 2012, Balblair Distillery opened an exceptionally refined visitor center; although small in size, it still receives approximately 4,000 visitors annually. Balblair Distillery is equipped with one 4.4-ton stainless steel semi-lauter mash tun, six Oregon pine washbacks, and two stills. Starting last year, the distillery increased operations from five to seven days per week, significantly boosting production capacity. With 21 mashes per week, the annual target production is 1.53 million liters. In 2019, fermentation time was standardized to 66 hours. The distillery also has eight traditional dunnage warehouses with a total capacity of 22,500 casks. In 2015, the distillery began using gas instead of heavy oil as fuel, substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Balblair's core age-statement range includes: Balblair 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old, 18 Year Old, and 25 Year Old. Balblair 12 Year Old is matured in twice-charred American oak bourbon barrels. Balblair 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old are matured in bourbon barrels, then finished in Spanish oak sherry casks. Balblair 25 Year Old is matured in bourbon barrels, then finished in Oloroso sherry casks.

Had a dram today that reminded me of straw and varnish, with a hint of chalk and fresh baguette on the nose. The palate was superbly fruity – think mango juice, lemonade and a tiny touch of peary nail polish – then it chimed in with welcome hints of green walnuts and a whisper of cinnamon. Finish lingered with citrus juice and left me feeling very close to perfection, really enjoyable 😊

Just poured a dram at 45% vol and it hit straight away with a massive hit of citrus juice and a bit of that 1970s Benriachs vibe – think lemon squash mixed with a splash of passion fruit juice. The nose is all strawberries and starkrimsons, a hint of agave syrup sweetening it like a drizzle over fresh baguette. On the palate there’s a huge quantity of fruiticello – kiwi, melon juice and a whisper of pineapple, almost overwhelmingly fruity but somehow still balanced, like a perfectly structured, overly‑fruity Balblair‑style sip. A touch of cinnamon sneaks in, then a chalky finish that lingers just long enough, leaving a faint aftertaste of green walnuts and a tiny hint of straw. Ideal strength, really, and it feels just a bit more like lemonade on a summer afternoon than a proper whisky – oddly comforting and very close to perfection 😊.

Poured myself a generous measure last night — 45% vol, feels like ideal strength to me. First thing I noticed was this lovely citrus juice note mixed with passion fruit juice, quite tropical actually. There's pineapples chiming in too, and a bit of melon juice softness underneath. On the palate it's got this ripe bananas and kiwis thing going on, almost like fruiticello at a summer BBQ. A hint of cinnamon warmth creeps through, and there's welcome hints of green walnuts giving it some depth. The texture reminds me of porridge — medium bodied, comforting. Noticed a tiny touch of varnish right at the back, nothing off-putting, honestly feels absolutely normal for something this well put together. Almost like that faint pear nail polish scent you catch when someone opens a fresh bottle near you. Honestly it's much better than I expected. Loves water too — added just a splash and those fresh baguette, yeasty notes really opened up. Very close to perfection for a casual weeknight dram. 🥃

Blimey, this one's a proper fruit bomb 🍇🍊! The first thing that hits me is an absolute tidal wave of tropical fruit — banana and tangerine are all over the place, with some kiwi and passion fruit juice mixed in. It's wonderfully structured, almost like a fancy fruit cocktail or a really good lemon squash. There's a lovely warmth creeping in too, like cinnamon on porridge, and maybe a hint of green walnuts for depth. The finish has this curious little touch... like a waft of something from a 1970s study, varnish or a bit of pear nail polish, but in a good, nostalgic way. The strength feels just right at 45% — ideal for a generous pour without it being too much. Honestly, it's so close to perfection for a fruity dram. Could sip this all afternoon. 😌

Quite warming and mellow, with a bit of sweet fruit, soft oak and a wee spicy kick. Feels cosy rather than heavy — nice for a slow sip on a chilly evening 🥃✨
