Founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, the visionary founder of Suntory, Yamazaki Distillery stands as the birthplace of Japanese whisky. Nestled on the outskirts of Kyoto at the confluence of three pristine rivers, Torii selected this location for its exceptional soft water and unique misty climate—ideal conditions for whisky maturation. After nearly a century of meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to the Japanese art of monozukuri, Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky has transcended its origins to achieve global icon status. The distillery's expressions have consistently earned the highest honors at the world's most prestigious spirits competitions, including the International Spirits Challenge (ISC), International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC), and San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), amassing numerous gold medals and 'World's Best Whisky' titles. This recognition from international whisky judges, master blenders, and connoisseurs worldwide has cemented Yamazaki's reputation as a pioneer that redefined the global whisky landscape, proving that world-class single malt could be crafted outside of Scotland.

Blimey, this whisky is quite something! 🥃 I get a strong sense of eucalyptus and menthol, it's like a refreshing breeze on a hot day. The finish is quite long, and I can taste the sweetness of marshmallows and honey. It's very simple, yet elegant, like a well-designed Bauhaus whisky. The flavours of fresh fruits, especially yellow plums, are lovely. And the quality, oh boy, it remains very high throughout! 🙌 The newish oak and Perfect vanilla notes are just right, not overpowering. I also detect some herbs and a hint of sugary sweetness, reminiscent of Madagascar's exotic spices. Overall, it's a cracking good dram, if I do say so myself! 😊

Had a dram this evening and it struck me as full gold, almost buttery, with a perfect vanilla nose that feels like genuine natural vanilla from a pastry shop. On the palate there’s a sugary sweetness, a hint of yellow plums and fresh fruits, a faint soapiness and a cheeky aniseed edge, while mint and menthol give it a subtle herbal kick. Nothing too complex – just a clean, high‑quality feel, a bit like Japanese modernity meets Bauhaus whisky, with a whisper of Madagascar honey and marshmallows 🙂

The colour's a lovely full gold in the glass. 🥃 On the nose, it's quite pleasant – I'm getting Perfect vanilla right away, like genuine natural vanilla pods. There's a fresh, minty-eucalyptus hint, almost like a touch of camphor, mixed in with some herbs. A faint soapiness lingers, which is odd but not off-putting. It's very simple on the palate, not complex at all. The taste is quite sugary, reminding me of marshmallows. The Madagascar vanilla and fresh fruits come through, maybe some yellow plums. The finish is quite long. The quality remains very high throughout, though the profile is quite standard. It has a clear, straightforward structure, almost like Bauhaus whisky or Japanese modernity in its design. I like its direct, uncomplicated sweetness. ✨

Right, poured myself a dram and it's this gorgeous full gold colour in the glass. First thing I notice is loads of honey and proper vanilla — not that fake stuff, the real deal 🍯 There's something quite fresh about it, like biting into ripe yellow plums. A bit of mint and eucalyptus in there too, kinda cooling. Touch of camphor which is interesting. No smoke or peat at all, very clean. Getting some marshmallow sweetness and a hint of aniseed lurking in the background. The oak feels relatively new, not overly woody but gives it a nice structure. Honestly it's not the most complex thing I've ever tried — quite simple really — but the vanilla profile is absolutely banging and the quality is proper high throughout. Finish hangs around for a good while, those herbal notes and the honey sticking about. Very drinkable, very moreish. Cheers 🥃

Oh wow, that first sip is just... straightforward, you know? Like someone poured real, genuine vanilla and a spoonful of Madagascar honey right in. It’s very simple and clean. Then you get this gentle wave of herbs, maybe some eucalyptus and a bit of mint floating around in the back. There’s a soft sweetness too, like yellow plums and marshmallows. Totally no peat here. It’s got this sort of Japanese modernity to it – precise, light, menthol-cool and crisp. Just a standard, easy-going dram that feels honest and refreshing. 🍯✨
