Tomatin: In 2005, Tomatin decided to forge its own path. At year-end, they distilled a batch of whisky using Optic barley peated to 15ppm and filled them into various cask types. Eight years later, a distinctive Tomatin single malt brand emerged—Cù Bòcan. Over the following six years, the distillery released numerous expressions under this line. Despite its popularity, Tomatin felt it was time for a brand realignment. In summer 2019, three new Cù Bòcan whiskies launched: the core Signature, plus Creation #1 and Creation #2. Creation #1 is finished in a combination of Black Isle Brewery Imperial Stout casks and Bacalhôa Moscatel De Setúbal wine casks, while Creation #2 matures in Japanese shōchū casks and European virgin oak casks. The distillery features a nine-tonne full-lauter stainless steel mash tun, twelve stainless steel fermentation tanks (54-110 hour fermentation), and six stills. Its 2019 production target was 18 million liters, including two weeks dedicated to peated whisky production at 40ppm. The core range includes Legacy, 12, 18, 30, and 36 Year Old, plus Tomatin Cask Strength, Tomatin Port Cask 14 Year Old, and Tomatin First Fill Bourbon Cask UK Exclusive. The 30 Year Old joined in 2018. Limited releases feature the Five Virtues series (Wood, Fire, Earth, Water, Metal), each cask-finished for unique profiles. The Warehouse 6 Collection includes Tomatin 40 Year Old and the recent 1975 Oloroso Cask release. Tomatin 50 Year Old, one of the distillery's most historic releases, debuted in 2018. Travel retail exclusives include 8, 12, 15, and 40 Year Old expressions. The peated portfolio is represented by Cù Bòcan Signature, Cù Bòcan Creation #1, and Cù Bòcan Creation #2.

Blimey, this one's a treat 🍸! Got a lovely elegant feel to it, like sippin' on a warm summer day. The peaches and pears come through nice and clear, bit like a juicy fruit salad 🍉. And then there's this subtle lilac and jasmine hint, all floral and whatnot. It's a little dry and tea-ish, but that's alright by me, mate. Reminds me of watchin' a lousy Scandinavian mini-series on Netflix, it's a bit of a slow burner, but it's got its moments 😒. The guavas and papayas add a nice tropical twist, like a holiday in a glass 🌴. And let's not forget the acacia honey, all sweet and soothing 🍯. It's not exactly a fruit bomb, but it's got a certain charm to it, like an old friend 🤗. Tight, but not too tight, if you know what I mean 🤔. All in all, a cracking good dram, if I do say so myself 🍻!

quite a discreet start, really. first sip brings red apples and papayas, maybe some peaches too. then whoosh – lovely fruit bombs exploding, like a liquid fruity and floral salad 🌸 it’s charming and precious, with this mullein syrup sweetness. but then it gets a little dry and tea-ish, rather elegant. the fruit feels preserved or tinned somehow, a bit like white wine left in the sun. entrancing jasmine notes pop up, followed by summer meadows honey. i get lilac and acacia honey too, though it’s delicate and fragile – like an old painting from the quattrocento. not exactly sure about the middle section, once again, it was tight. like trying to follow a lousy Scandinavian mini-series on Netflix. hints of wisteria and plums, very mellow. but if you’re expecting guavas and pears everywhere, your palate might find it a bit flat 🤷‍♂️ loses one or three points for that slight tightness, but the elegance’s worth it. quite a French one for that matter (even worse?) – no, wait, that’s just the memory. still lovely though.

Quite warming, with a soft sweet hit and a bit of spice. I get dried fruit, oak, and a wee touch of smoke 🥃 Feels cosy rather than heavy — nice slow sipper, honestly.

Quite a cosy dram, really. I get soft fruit, a bit of vanilla, light spice and a wee touch of oak. Feels warm rather than heavy, with a gentle sweet finish 😊 Nice for a slow evening sip.

As a whisky enthusiast, I find this dram has a lovely warmth with hints of vanilla and maybe a bit of oak. Really smooth, like a cozy hug in a glass. 🥃 Sometimes, I get a slight fruitiness in the back, sort of like appels or pears. Thier finish is gentle and lingers nicely. 😋 It’s a proper treat for a quiet evening, innit?
