Whiskyspace Notes 1882

Right then, had a rather lovely dram last night and I must say, it was absolutely ravishing. The first thing that hit me was this gorgeous maple syrup sweetness, almost like those amazing meadow flowers you'd find on a proper English countryside walk. Got some biscuits in there too, maybe a few raisins, and a touch of white chocolate that was awesomely delicate. My Canadian mates would go mad for this one - they'd say the maple notes are spot on, cheerio! 🍁 There's a little camphor showing up, some mushrooms even, and honeys that remind me of very old sweet wines. The finish? Oh, there's even more maple syrup in this finish, not that short at all. Rather like mead was the drink of the Gods in ancient Greece - it is a nectar of the gods, honestly. A bit of cane and agave sweetness in there too, various syrups I suppose. Deep amber colour, a little light on the palate but so un-modern in the best way. Barley of course doing its thing. I just love it. A ravishing delight indeed. Some of those lower proof ones remain a wee tad frustrating, but happily this one's gone to 90 and above. Even more top-of-range maple syrup character throughout. Simply fresh white buttons of flavour popping everywhere 😊
