Port Charlotte is a distinguished heavily-peated single malt Scotch whisky brand originating from the Isle of Islay on Scotland's west coast. Though the original Port Charlotte distillery operated from 1829 to 1929 in the village of Port Charlotte, the brand was resurrected in 2001 by the innovative Bruichladdich Distillery, which is located just two miles northeast. The whisky is crafted on the historic grounds of the former Lochindaal Distillery, maintaining deep roots in Islay's whisky heritage. Port Charlotte expressions are characterized by their robust peat smoke (measuring 40 PPM), maritime influence, and complex layers of fruit, vanilla, and spice. The brand emphasizes terroir-driven production, utilizing 100% Scottish barley with a significant portion grown on Islay itself. Core expressions include the flagship Port Charlotte 10 Year Old, the terroir-focused Islay Barley series, and various wine cask finished bottlings. All whiskies are non-chill filtered and bottled at 50% ABV or higher, reflecting Bruichladdich's commitment to authenticity and quality.

First sip hits me with sweet honeydew and vanilla, then a briny brine and a whisper of smoked porridge, plus a hint of fir honey and green banana. There’s a peppery mint and a faint cough‑medicine note that feels oddly herbal, and a zing of orange liqueur. The fresh, active oak gives a rough edge that turns creamy, and the peat shows up as a subtle smoke‑peat vibe. It’s surprisingly young yet sweet and good, with a long finish that keeps the barley obvious and a touch of liquorice. Overall it’s a different concept, more oak and straw, still creamy, a bit rough but very good. 😋

Taking a sniff, it's like green bananas and fir honey climbing up your nostrils, with orange liqueur and a hint of mint. The first sip is creamier than I expected, but there's a roughness that's cut through by sweet oak and vanilla. Barley comes out more here, not too heavy, with a younger peat that’s surprisingly fresh. There's a touch of honeydew and green tea in the mix, which is a different concept for a whisky. The oak really stands out in the finish, rather long and toffee-laced. A bit of brine sneaks in, almost like cough medicine but in a way that works. Sweet and young but very good, with a profile that’s a bit different but hits the spot 🥃

Oof, first sip hits like a fresh breeze off the moors—peat smoke curling round your tongue like smoked porridge left too long on the stove. Then the oak jumps out, not shy at all, more like a new barrel still creamy with vanilla and toffee. Green tea and herbs sneak in, almost like someone tossed a handful of fresh mint into the glass. The barley’s right there, chewy and young, with a touch of green banana sweetness. Honeydew drips down, sticky and bright, while that straw note lingers like a summer field. The finish? Bloody long. More oak keeps pushing, almost medicinal at first but then softens into something richer, like orange liqueur fading into cream. Rough edges smooth out, leaving a mouthfeel that’s still creamy but with a bit of bite—young energy holding its own.

What a curious dram this is – no age statement but packs a punch! The first sniff hits you with this smoky porridge vibe, proper peaty and briny, like a coastal bonfire. Then there's this cough medicine sweetness lurking underneath, weirdly comforting. On the palate, it's got that green banana and honeydew thing going on, but the oak comes out more than expected – sweet oak and active oak (fresh) battling it out. Vanilla and toffee mingle with mint and liquorice, while the barley's more obvious than I'd thought. It’s rather long, with a creamier mouth feel that still holds onto that youthful energy. Different profile, different concept – young, sweet, and very good, despite the roughness. Sip it slow, it’s like a straw-colored adventure with a kick. 🥃

Just had a sip of this one... no age stated, but it feels surprisingly young and lively. 🍌 You get that fresh, sweet oak right away, with vanilla and a bit of a rough edge. Then it shifts – creamy mouthfeel, then almost like smoked porridge or herbal tea with a hint of liquorice. There’s a strange note reminding me of cough syrup mixed with orange liqueur, which sounds odd but kinda works. 😅 The peat isn’t overwhelming, more like a background smoke, and you really notice the barley. Finish is rather long, a bit salty (brine?), with the oak coming back strongly. Quite a different profile, sweet and young but very good – climbs right up your nostrils! 🌿🍯
