Orphan Barrel American Whiskey

Orphan Barrel Whiskey Distilling Co. (commonly known as Orphan Barrel) is a premium American whiskey brand launched in 2013 by global spirits leader Diageo. Operating as an independent bottler without its own distillery, the company specializes in discovering and bottling ultra-aged, 'orphaned' whiskey stocks from closed or repurposed American distilleries. Their concept revolves around rescuing forgotten barrels that matured for exceptionally long periods—typically 15 to 25 years—far exceeding standard aging. Key releases include Barterhouse 20-Year-Old, the Rhetoric series (20-25 years), Lost Prophet 22-Year-Old, and Forged Oak 15-Year-Old, primarily sourced from the legendary Stitzel-Weller and Bernheim distilleries. These limited-edition bottlings command high prices among collectors seeking liquid history, though the brand has faced industry scrutiny regarding transparency about exact provenance and mash bills. Orphan Barrel occupies a unique position in the luxury whiskey segment, blending storytelling with exceptionally aged American whiskey.
