Glenlossie Distillery, established in 1876 by the legendary Victorian whisky pioneer John Duff—former manager of Glendronach and founder of Longmorn—stands as a quintessential Speyside producer. Nestled in a tranquil pine forest north of the River Spey, its distinctive white harled buildings exemplify traditional Morayshire architecture. The distillery began with a single water-powered still, converting to steam heating only in 1919. A major expansion in 1962 tripled capacity to three stills, catapulting production forward. Now under Diageo ownership, Glenlossie has earned renown for exceptionally extended fermentation periods, yielding a spirit of remarkable purity and finesse. The late whisky authority Michael Jackson famously characterized its profile as "pure floral, grassy and malt notes," epitomizing the delicate Speyside style. The vast majority of output—approximately 98%—serves as premium blending stock for iconic brands including Cutty Sark, Famous Grouse, and Haig Gold Label, making official single malt bottlings exceptionally scarce (representing merely 0.5% of total production). The distillery underwent an extensive 18-month closure from January 2018 to June 2019 for comprehensive modernization, including new stainless steel washbacks, a state-of-the-art 8-ton full-lauter mash tun, and complete infrastructure replacement. While theoretical capacity reaches 3.7 million liters annually, current operations produce 2 million liters through a 5-day week schedule, utilizing both long (104-hour) and short (65-hour) fermentation cycles to achieve complex flavor development. The sole official single malt expression remains the Glenlossie 10 Year Old in Diageo's Flora & Fauna series.

🥃 Too right this one’s right up my street! The liquid’s a proper golden brown, looks gorgeous in the light. First you get honeyed notes mixed with pollen and dandelion freshness, plus a little cinnamon warmth, then sweet figs and dates with roasted raisins, even a hint of that walnut skin subtle bitter edge. Tastes like strong black tea with a dash of peach syrup, that mint tea coolness peeks through too. The finish has that lovely very old cognac depth, plus liquorice wood aroma, green tannins are just right, medium finish so it doesn’t drag on, and a little coconut water cuts through all the sweetness perfectly. Ideal for a lazy weekend on the sofa 🥴

This dram pours a warm gold, hits the nose with a beehive-y scent and a hint of pollen. There's a strong black tea backbone with a touch of mint tea on the side, and some green tannins that make it a bit drying 🍃. The palate's sweet with figs, dates, and cinnamon, but also has this earthy dandelion thing going on 🌼. The finish is medium, with a bit of walnut skin tannin and that mead sweetness lingering 🍯. Quite a mix, but it's got character.

Nosing this one, straight away it's all honey and beeswax - properly beehive-y, you know? Like sticking your head into a hive. Little bit of pollen floating about, wild flowers maybe, dandelions even. Quite inviting. Taking a sip and wow, the fruit jumps out. Figs and dates, proper sticky ones, with a drizzle of peach syrup over the top. There's something reminiscent of a very old cognac in there, that sort of mellow richness. Gets a bit drying after, that classic walnut skin bitterness creeps in. Green tannins too, like strong black tea left to steep a touch too long. Not unpleasant though, adds structure. Some roasted raisins come through with a dusting of cinnamon. And right at the back, a hint of mead perhaps? That honeyed sweetness just lingers. Medium finish overall, fades away gently with a touch of mint tea and something woody... liquorice wood maybe? Properly good stuff honestly. Just sits there warming you up nicely 🥃

Just poured myself a dram and it's quite a fascinating one 🥃 Starts off dead sweet with thick honey and rich honeyed notes, plus some lovely roasted raisins. But then I get this weirdly fresh hint of coconut water? Didn't see that coming at all. There's a nice kick of cinnamon and it feels a bit like chewing on liquorice wood. Honestly, the whole profile reminds me massiveley of a very old cognac I had years ago. Gets a bit grippy towards the end though. You really notice the green tannins and that bitter sort of walnut skin vibe. It’s really drying on the palate, tbh. Has a medium finish so it doesn't hang around for ages. Decent drop for a rainy evening anyway! 🌧️
