Whiskyspace Notes 2270

Blimey mate, this one’s all over the shop 😂 First sip hits with that sharp medicinal streak, peppery kick, sour herbal notes and a whiff of wild garlic. There’s wee inflections of silage, farmyard cider zap, plus smoked teas and old beer vibes that remind me of my mate’s dodgy homebrew night. Then it dries out hard, loads of chalky limestone minerality, gritty like concrete dust, faint graphite edge all arid and austere. There’s a slowly emerging waxy side, though it’s got that slightly off wax whiff like an old candle left in a shed. Some bits are proper nice mind – sappy grassy beery stuff, crushed flower stem and vase water vibes, even that funky pickled tarragon note that’s weirdly catchy? But half the time it’s disjointed, rather all over the place, like five whiskies stitched together by a one-armed lunatic. You get stale malt, mashed veg and cereal bits, that low-lying peat hum from the ex-peater cask, and austerity cranked right up to 11. The beery, smoky malt bits keep pulling it back though, even when it’s being very tough.
