Clynelish Single Malt Whisky stands as one of the most esteemed and strategically vital distilleries within Diageo's portfolio, serving as a cornerstone malt for the iconic Johnnie Walker blended Scotch whisky range, particularly the prestigious Gold Label Reserve. The distillery's distinctive waxy, honeyed character has rendered it indispensable to master blenders for nearly two centuries. Dr. Jim Beveridge OBE, Diageo's Master Blender for over four decades, has been the guardian of Johnnie Walker's consistent quality and signature house style. As only the sixth Master Blender in the brand's 200-year history, Beveridge helms a team of 12 expert blenders while bearing ultimate responsibility for the world's best-selling Scotch whisky. Among all malt whiskies, Clynelish holds a privileged position in his blending repertoire, alongside Talisker, as his preferred foundation for crafting complex blends. In recognition of his monumental contributions to the Scotch whisky industry, Dr. Beveridge was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in June 2019, an honor that coincided with Diageo's bicentennial celebrations. The Clynelish distillery underwent a comprehensive year-long refurbishment in June 2017, emerging with state-of-the-art equipment including a 12.5-tonne full lauter mash tun, eight traditional wooden washbacks, and two stainless steel fermenters. The facility operates with three pairs of stills, offering panoramic views of Brora village and the North Sea from the stillhouse. Running seven days a week, the distillery produces approximately 4.8 million liters of new make spirit annually. Notably, around 6,000 casks of Clynelish spirit mature in the warehouses of its sister distillery Brora, which ceased operations but is now undergoing extensive restoration to reopen in 2020. The majority of Clynelish's maturation stock, however, rests in other Diageo facilities across Scotland. Clynelish's official bottlings showcase the distillery's elegant character, led by the benchmark 14-year-old expression and the Distiller's Edition, which receives a finishing period in Oloroso Seco sherry casks. The distillery has also featured prominently in Diageo's annual Special Releases, with the Clynelish Select Reserve appearing for two consecutive years. In a contemporary marketing highlight, spring 2019 saw the launch of the Game of Thrones Limited Edition Collection, featuring eight single malts—including a Clynelish bottling representing House Tyrell at 51.6% ABV, without age statement.

lately tried a dram that just stuck with me all week 🥃 Textbook modern Clynelishesque nose first off, dead recognisable – you get that wonderfully waxy note, hint of caramel, vanilla fudge sweetness right away, plus a little twist of cloves and even olive oil which sounds odd but works? took a sip and it’s rather on the citrusy side again, in the best way: bright lemons, citrons, juicy oranges, even those crystallised grapefruits, all super fresh – freshness remains impressive for sure. there’s those touches of salt and nice brine, a hint of straw, white pepper and caraway for a warm little kick, and it finishes with that fresh fruit sorbet zing. A little unusual but quite irresistible, honestly.

Just poured a dram and the first sip hit me with a mega‑good splash of vanilla fudge and caramel, then a cheeky brine note that makes you think of a salty sea‑spray on a summer walk. There's a citrusy side too – bright lemons and a bit of crystallised grapefruit dancing with a whisper of orange rind. The caraway and white pepper give it a subtle spice, while a faint hint of fresh fruit sorbet makes it feel oddly refreshing, like sipping tonic water through a straw on a warm day. A touch of salt lingers on the back of the palate, and the finish is long, almost waxy, leaving me with the faintest memory of olives and cloves. Definitely a different, irresistibly tasty experience. 😊

Nose hits you with this rather different citrusy punch—lemons and citrons, almost like a Fresh Fruit Sorbet. There's a Textbook modern Clynelishesque nose here, with hints of brine and a touch of soap that's oddly inviting. On the palate, it's mega-good. Vanilla fudge and caramel sweetness, but then the white pepper kicks in, along with some caraway and a whisper of olive oil. The waxes and oranges linger, while touches of salt keep things interesting. WF 87 and a long finish—freshness remains impressive, really. Just a proper dram, innit? 🥃

Oof, first sip hits like a zesty slap—lemons and oranges dancing with cloves, proper citrusy side that lingers like a cheeky grin. Then the waxy bit kicks in, coats the tongue like polished leather, but not in a chewy way, more like... fresh fruit sorbet melting slow. White pepper and caraway sneaking in, just a whisper of brine and olive oil slickness—proper grown-up stuff, no soap nonsense. Caramel lurks in the background, soft as vanilla fudge left out in the sun. The finish? Long enough to make you sigh, freshness still sharp as a winter morning. Rather different, yeah, but in that "why didn’t I think of this before?" way. Irresistible. 🍊✨

This dram’s got a proper clean, sharp nose—Textbook modern Clynelish vibes but with a twist. Wonderfully waxy on the tongue, like licking a candle but in a good way. There’s this citrusy kick from lemons and oranges upfront, then the brine hits you with a salty kiss, almost like olives or tonic water. Caramel sweetness rolls in, balancing the white pepper and cloves spice. It’s long and fresh, the kind of dram that makes you think of a Fresh Fruit Sorbet on a summer day. Just mega-good, really. 👌
