Clynelish Single Malt Whisky stands as one of the most esteemed and strategically vital distilleries within Diageo's portfolio, serving as a cornerstone malt for the iconic Johnnie Walker blended Scotch whisky range, particularly the prestigious Gold Label Reserve. The distillery's distinctive waxy, honeyed character has rendered it indispensable to master blenders for nearly two centuries. Dr. Jim Beveridge OBE, Diageo's Master Blender for over four decades, has been the guardian of Johnnie Walker's consistent quality and signature house style. As only the sixth Master Blender in the brand's 200-year history, Beveridge helms a team of 12 expert blenders while bearing ultimate responsibility for the world's best-selling Scotch whisky. Among all malt whiskies, Clynelish holds a privileged position in his blending repertoire, alongside Talisker, as his preferred foundation for crafting complex blends. In recognition of his monumental contributions to the Scotch whisky industry, Dr. Beveridge was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in June 2019, an honor that coincided with Diageo's bicentennial celebrations. The Clynelish distillery underwent a comprehensive year-long refurbishment in June 2017, emerging with state-of-the-art equipment including a 12.5-tonne full lauter mash tun, eight traditional wooden washbacks, and two stainless steel fermenters. The facility operates with three pairs of stills, offering panoramic views of Brora village and the North Sea from the stillhouse. Running seven days a week, the distillery produces approximately 4.8 million liters of new make spirit annually. Notably, around 6,000 casks of Clynelish spirit mature in the warehouses of its sister distillery Brora, which ceased operations but is now undergoing extensive restoration to reopen in 2020. The majority of Clynelish's maturation stock, however, rests in other Diageo facilities across Scotland. Clynelish's official bottlings showcase the distillery's elegant character, led by the benchmark 14-year-old expression and the Distiller's Edition, which receives a finishing period in Oloroso Seco sherry casks. The distillery has also featured prominently in Diageo's annual Special Releases, with the Clynelish Select Reserve appearing for two consecutive years. In a contemporary marketing highlight, spring 2019 saw the launch of the Game of Thrones Limited Edition Collection, featuring eight single malts—including a Clynelish bottling representing House Tyrell at 51.6% ABV, without age statement.

Blimey, this stuff’s absolutely lush 🥃 First you get all that bright mango, tangerine and passion fruit zing, great zestiness that mingles with the lemon oil and fresh lemons, then the rosewater and orange blossom water come through all soft, plus that roasted sesame and olive oil richness, a little waxy beeswax and vanilla sweetness, even a hint of straw, toasted almonds and sour oak in the background. Body’s so rounder and fuller, heaviest body but it just swims like Michael Phelps, even glides like Ian Thorpe with how smooth it is, so rich, even a little spicier pepper kick at the end. Long finish that lingers on all those citrus and nutty notes, honestly bordering perfection, such a loveable dram.

Blimey, what a lovely dram 😊 Nose first hits you with bright lemons, tangerine and that zesty orange blossom water, plus a hint of sour oak from the active wood. Then you get soft vanilla, toasted almonds and even a waft of roasted sesame oil. On the palate it’s a rounder and fuller version than you’d expect, got the heaviest body for its strength too, loads of great zestiness, a touch more pepper so it’s spicier in the best way, ripe mango and that mingling with the lemon oil note. There’s a hint of passion fruit too, and even a faint straw sweetness. Finish is so long, sits right between lemon oil and beeswax, with a little waxiness and rosewater at the end. It honestly swims like Ian Thorpe, just glides on forever. Super lovable, bordering perfection, the roundness is so smooth, very close to the BB&R classic profile. Quite perfect for a casual Tuesday sipper, no notes at all.

The first sip hits with this active wood thing, like someone's been stoking a fire in a pine forest. Then passion fruit and tangerine swing in, all sunny and zesty, but wait—there's a peppery kick sneaking up, making it spicier than I expected. Almonds and vanilla mellow it out, smooth as a Sunday roast gravy. But the sour oak's lurking, tangy and sharp, mingling with the lemon like a proper barmy cocktail. The body's thick, heavier than a London fog, with this roundness that feels like a hug from your nan. Mango and wax undertones give it a weirdly tropical edge, and by the finish, it's lovable, proper lovable, like it's bordering perfection but still got that cheeky wink to keep you guessing. Bit of a roller-coaster, but in a good way.

Oof, first sip hits like a tidal wave—thick, velvety, this thing’s got more body than a Sunday roast gravy. 😅 Then the citrus explodes, not just lemons but proper tangerine zing, mingling with orange blossom water like a summer garden in a glass. A whisper of mango sweetness sneaks in, but it’s not cloying—more like a cheeky grin from a mate who’s had one too many. Pepper sparks at the back, lively as a campfire, while vanilla and almonds wrap it all up in a cosy blanket. The oak’s there, but not in your face—just a sour tang, like lemon oil rubbing shoulders with beeswax. Feels like it’s been aged in a barrel that’s seen a few summers, proper active wood doing its thing. Long finish, too. Not just lingering—it’s still swimming laps like Michael Phelps by the end, round and full, bordering on perfect. Could’ve been a bit louder with the spice, but nah, it’s spot on. Almost too good to be true, honestly.

Hmm, this one's bordering perfection – the roundness hits you straight away, rounder and fuller than usual. It's got this lovely mingling with the lemon, fresh lemons with a beeswaxy edge, and a touch of straw underneath. The body's the heaviest, just swims like Ian Thorpe in the glass. Vanilla and passion fruit pop out, mingled with roasted sesame oil – sounds odd but works a treat. Sour oak and active wood give it structure, and it turns spicier on the finish with orange blossom water and rosewater sticking around. Almonds and mango add a fruity nuttiness. Really lovable sip! 🥃😊
