Honestly wasn’t sure I’d get on with this at first 🥃 It’s that lovely yellow gold in the glass, but the nose is a bit odd, sort of dusty, has a bit of perfume, a tiny hint of rancio, even that faint soy sauce whiff at first. But the palate really saves it, innit? So much more balanced than I expected. You get all that toffee, café latte vibes, overripe oranges, cooked sweet wine, even a little ginger kick, plus hints of cooked fruits and hot toddy warmth. After a few minutes it gets frankly a bit vinous, like old emptied wine cask coming through nicely. The finish is rather long too, lingers on the palate proper. All in all a really pleasant surprise, perfect for a lazy Sunday evening dram 😌

First nosing is rather closed at first, a bit dusty, with quite some perfume and a whisper of cooked fruit. After a few minutes it turns frankly vinous, like a cooked sweet wine that’s picked up a little rancio. The palate really saves the rather weird nose, giving a creamy café latte vibe with toffee and crystallised orange zest, plus a hint of soy sauce. Finish is rather long, warm, reminding me of a hot toddy by the fire. ☕️

This one’s got a proper deep gold colour, like liquid amber in the glass. First nosing, it’s a bit closed off, sort of dusty like those old bottles you find in your grandad’s cupboard. But give it a minute, and it opens up – there’s this weird mix of cooked sweet wine and toffee, with a whisper of soy sauce that made me think I was in the kitchen. On the palate, it’s surprisingly balanced, not as sharp as it smelled. Ginger and cooked fruits come through, along with a touch of rancio that’s oddly comforting. It starts off like a hot toddy, then shifts into café latte and Cointreau vibes – weirdly sweet, but in a way that works. The finish is proper long, lingering on old wine casks and crystallised orange peel. Not what I expected from a ten-year, but it’s got character, y’know? 🥃

Right, so this one was a bit of a curveball honestly. First nosing and I was like... what? 🤔 Quite closed off, kind of weirdly vinous, like someone left a bottle of cooked sweet wine sitting around too long. Picked up some overripe oranges, maybe a hint of soy sauce of all things. Not gonna lie, the nose was a bit off-putting. But then I actually tasted it and... hang on, the palate really does save it. Way more balanced than expected. Got this ginger kick, like a hot toddy on a cold evening, some toffee sweetness sneaking in. Even a touch of café latte which I wasn't expecting. Give it a few minutes in the glass and it opens up nicely. Starts showing these cooked fruit notes, a little rancio character, some crystallised orange peel. The finish is actually rather long and warming. Not easy to enjoy at first, honestly. You've got to give it time. But stick with it and there's something quite interesting in there. Sort of dusty and old-fashioned, but in a charming way I suppose. 😊

But the palate really saves it, starts with this sweet, toffee-and-cooked-fruit thing, almost like a hot toddy with overripe oranges. There’s a weird hint of soy sauce and ginger lurking, which sounds mad but actually works, gives it some depth. After a few minutes, it gets frankly vinous, like someone spilled café latte into a dusty wine cellar. The finish is proper long, and it’s more balanced than I expected, but not exactly easy sipping. Still, I’d take another dram just for the rancio edge and that crystallized orange kick.
