Blanton's is the pioneering single barrel bourbon brand that ignited the premium American whiskey renaissance. Launched in 1984 by legendary Master Distiller Emeritus Elmer T. Lee, it honors former distillery president Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who personally selected "honey barrels" for distinguished guests. Each bottle is drawn from an individual aging barrel without blending, making every batch unique. The brand is distinguished by its iconic round bottle, collectible horse and jockey stoppers (featuring 8 different letters that spell "BLANTONS"), and exceptional quality. Produced at the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, Blanton's created the single barrel category and remains the global benchmark for premium bourbon. The whiskey typically features rich notes of caramel, vanilla, honey, and citrus with a smooth, complex finish.

Had a glug of this last night, right? Gorgeous gold in the glass first off, but straightaway you get bags and bags of cinnamon, a right spicy arrival with that warm ginger hit too. Thing is, it's Really very oaky, frankly over-oaked for my taste – sawdust, pencil shavings, just typical oak juice all the way through. Dries your mouth out proper, very dry finish too. There's a little coconut cream and maple syrup peeking through halfway, plus that weird spicy bread sprinkled with loads of custard vibe? And a hint of over-infused tea right at the end, but the oak just drowns most of it out. A bit much for a casual weekday dram but not half bad if you love heavy oak 🥃

Honestly this one’s a proper mixed bag 🥃 it pours that gorgeous gold colour first, hits ya with a rather spicy arrival right off the bat – ginger, bags and bags of cinnamon, even a hint of caraway bread and spicy bread sprinkled with custard y’know? It’s medium bodied too, but then… frankly it’s so over-oaked, like really very oaky to the point more and more oak gets in the way of everything else. You get that weird over-infused tea vibe, sawdust, even pencil shavings poking through, and it ends up super drying, very dry, a bit gritty even. There’s tiny bits of lavender, coconut cream, maple syrup tucked in there but they’re fighting a losing battle against all the oak innit?

First sip hits with a rather spicy arrival, then a wave of very oaky, almost typical oak juice feel. Lavender and ginger peek through, but there’s a gritty, sawdust edge that dries the palate. Feels medium bodied, like an over‑infused tea left too long. A hint of better vatted this cask lingers, ending very dry. ☕️

Cracking wee rye whisky dram this afternoon 🥃 That lovely gold in the glass first, then the nose is full of orange zests, super marmalade-y, with notes of raspberry jam, a bit of citric zing and even a hint of cologne. Sipping it you get that rounder vanilla vanillin hit, bags of cinnamon, bitter oranges with that little bitter edge, and it’s big enough to stand all this tannicity without being overwhelmed by it – I’m not buying all this oak that some drams shove down your throat, mind. Finish is rather long, with a clove-y aftertaste, bits of black tea, lavender and violets peeking through. Felt like proper sunshine in a glass, made me fancy some buckwheat crepes to go with it tbh. Got more action than a lot of the usual bottles I pick up, little better too for a casual sip.

I took a sip and immediately got hit with this really very oaky punch – sharp, almost like pencil shavings and sawdust mixed in. There's a rather spicy arrival, maybe ginger or cinnamon, that makes you sit up a bit. The nose? Over-infused tea with a hint of lavender, but honestly, the oak just gets in the way more and more. It’s medium-bodied, but that oak juice thing takes over – typical oak juice, if you ask me. Sweet notes like maple syrup and coconut cream try to peek through, but they’re drowned out by bitter cocoa and bags and bags of cinnamon. The finish is really drying, leaves a trail of Caraway bread and that same oak-heavy dryness. Frankly over-oaked, this one – wears you down after a while. Still, there’s something oddly nostalgic about it, like an old wooden chest in the attic. 🤔
