Just poured a dram of this one. Colour's a lovely gold, but the nose hit me with sawdust and ginger right off the bat. 😅 First sip, it's frankly over-oaked – more and more oak gets in the way as it lingers. The arrival is rather spicy, like spicy bred sprinkled with custard, and there's a caraway bread note too. Medium body, but very dry and gritty. Bags and bags of cinnamon jump out, with hints of bitter cocoa and pencil shavings. Tastes like typical oak juice, maybe a bit over-infused tea. Maple syrup sweetness tries to peek through, but coconut cream and lavender get lost. Really very oaky, all in all. Better vatted this cask, I'd say. 👍

Just had a dram, and it's this gold-coloured whisky that's really very oaky on the nose – like typical oak juice. First sip, it's a rather spicy arrival with ginger and bags and bags of cinnamon, almost like spicy bread sprinkled with custard and a bit of maple syrup. But then it turns gritty, frankly over-oaked with sawdust notes, and it's very dry and drying on the palate. I get bitter cocoa and hints of lavender and over-infused tea, which reminds me of caraway bread. The oak starts to get in the way more and more, though there's a touch of coconut cream. This cask might be better vatted, medium body but overdone. 😅

Bit of a sunny afternoon dram this one. Cinnamon hits first, proper nice, then some bitter orange peel thing going on. Got that sweet caramel backnote, like burnt sugar. Funny, I'm getting a whiff of cologne and lavender? Very floral, almost like sniffing an old soap. Oak is there, obviously, but not buying all this oak, maybe a bit too much? Tastes a bit like those buckwheat crepes from the French market. Needs to be a little better rounded, more action in the middle. The vanillin sweetness is nice, and there's violets too, but the tannicity feels a bit drying. Still, not bad for a Tuesday. 🤷‍♂️
