Absolutely love this dram! The nose hits you with this incredible mix of tart blood oranges and cloves, like a mulled wine that’s been spiked with chartreuse. There’s a real exceptional nose here – citrus and marmalade dancing with drier spices and a hint of unsweetened herbal teas. On the palate, it’s all about balance – earthy tones, figs, and prunes-and-marzipan swirling together, with a whisper of bitter chocolate and that perfect chocolate richness. The mid-palate brings in a touch of rubber and sappy oranges, which sounds weird, but it works, like the best Mars bar ever dipped in liquorice. The finish is long and dry, no sweet and cloying nonsense, just a lingering hint of cinnamon mints and maraschino. Deep amber in the glass, and I reckon it’d only get better with twenty further years of bottle ageing. In short, the sherry influence is fantastic, and it’s fan-tas-tic value for a star of whiskydom. 😊🥃
