First impression is surprisingly clean for such a heavy peat. Lots of medicinal notes right away, a bit like opening a first aid kit. That iodine is there, but it's joined by this distinct red Mercurochrome smell – really takes me back. There's roots and bark underneath, earthy. Then it opens up... suddenly get these sweet preserved peaches, just for a second, before the smoke rolls in. Not harsh smoke, more like smoked almonds, or the kind of smoke you'd get from a torched crème brûlée. The "crème that you would first ‘brûle’ and then ‘fume’" – that's spot on. It's a rich, almost oily smoke, a bit sunflower oil-ish. Compared to the 10-year-old, this is way more medicinal. Tar and antiseptic. There's a hint of quinine bitterness, a bit of lovage. Feels pretty petroly. But it's surprisingly kind of easy to drink, all things considered. The finish is long, smoky, and absolutely drenched in that medicinal character. Reminds me a lot of those live cask samples you'd try at the distillery – raw, powerful, and well-chiselled. A proper peat monster. 🌫️
