VAT 69 is a historic blended Scotch whisky created in 1882 by William Sanderson, a renowned Scottish spirits merchant. The brand's name originates from a legendary tasting: Sanderson crafted 100 distinct cask blends and convened an expert panel to blind taste them, with blend number 69 unanimously selected as the finest. Pioneering modern packaging, VAT 69 was one of the first Scotch whiskies sold in glass bottles. Comprising approximately 40 malt and grain whiskies primarily from Speyside and Highland distilleries, this 40% ABV blend delivers a smooth, approachable profile of honeyed malt, vanilla, fresh fruit, and subtle peat smoke. Its reliability earned it official supply contracts with the British Army during both World Wars. Currently owned by Diageo, VAT 69 remains a benchmark value-premium blend, celebrated for its consistency, heritage, and versatility in cocktails.
