Ghost Castle (Caisteal Chamuis) is a heavily peated and smoked single malt whisky brand from Mossburn Distillers, launched in February 2022. The brand takes its name from a 13th-century fortress on the Isle of Skye, perched on a cliff east of Loch Bay beside the Torabhaig Distillery, a site visited by thousands annually. Local legend tells of brutal medieval battles fought here, with fallen warriors' ghosts said to drift through Loch Bay's mists, forever shrouding the island in phantom fog. Positioned as 'Heavily Peated, Heavily Smooth,' Ghost Castle aims to make bold island smoke accessible to newcomers. Mossburn Marketing Director Rick Bennett-Baggs explains: 'Heavily peated whisky is often seen as challenging, but appreciating its complexity needn't be difficult. We use colorful folklore to invite curious drinkers into the world of smoky island malts.' The bottle features original artwork by British illustrator Gail Kelly, created through woodcut printing techniques that evoke the island's rugged character. The portfolio comprises two expressions: 1. **Ghost Castle Double Cask (NAS)**: A vatting of single malts from Islay, Skye (sourced from Torabhaig Distillery), and Orkney. Matured in first-fill bourbon barrels with secondary cask finishing for remarkable smoothness. Offers elegant peat smoke, honey, pepper, baking spices, and butter vanilla notes.
